Q:

Direct-Flo Valve

I have some questions about the new TalonP valve but first let me say hi to everyone as this is my first post.

I just got off the phone with AirForce and they couldn’t or wouldn’t answer my question so it’s up to you guys to come up with an answer. I understand the new Direct-Flo valve will not fit the larger Talon and Condor tanks. The only AirForce gun I own is the TalonP so I have nothing to compare but I assume the threads on the Direct-Flo valve are different than the threads on the Talon and Condor valves. The small 213cc TalonP tank appears to be the same as a 13ci paintball tank. Could it be? If so would the TalonP valve fit any paintball tank, especially the 17ci (280cc) RAP4 tank?

I asked AirForce that question and they said maybe, you’ll just have to try it.

I also asked about the new Spin-Loc system since no instructions for it’s use was included with my TalonP and they said the instructions are almost ready. They offered to mail a copy of the instructions plus one of the wrenches needed to use the Spin-Loc system. So I’ll be checking my mailbox.

Anyway, I hope to figure out this tank mounting business because I very much want to use a 17ci paintball tank with my TalonP. The longer tank will give me a much better LOP but still look good on the TalonP. Not to mention giving me a couple more full power shots.

I did think of using an ETaC for the tank but the new valve won’t fit in the ETaC either.

I think you’re right about the 22ci tank. It would add about 4″ to the LOP. The 17ci tank would add about 2″. I could also use a new Spin-Loc TalonP valve assembly to add a gauge and foster fitting without increasing the LOP. That would give me a whole new 361cc Spin-Loc TalonP tank plus I’d still have my 213cc tank as a spare.

Are you making the talonP able to be shouldered? If yes then I would suggest the 22ci tank, more shots and should be still nice and compact.

Good luck

Final update on TalonP tank thread. Below is the answer to my email asking about the thread on the TalonP tank:

“The thread size on the TalonP 213cc tank is 5/8 – 18 UNF.

That should make it official. And ease my mind on the purchase of a 17ci or 22ci tank.

Okay, this is an update to my post. I just got off the phone with Catalina Cylinders Cliff Impact Division and they are the manufacturer of the TalonP 213cc tank and it does have a standard paintball thread of 5/8-18UNF-2B.

My next step is to order a 17ci (280cc) tank which is about 2-1/4″ longer than the 13ci (213cc) tank. That should be a good increase in LOP for my short arms without messing up the idea of using the TalonP as a short carbine. I’ll add a black neoprene tank cover and slip-on butt plate to complete the short carbine look and feel.

I hope this info is useful for some of the TalonP owners on this forum.

lol… I’ve talked with her before, she is very nice in fact till you ask her something she doesn’t know or doesn’t want to answer… alto she did track down the answer for me and got back to me with it as well as sent me the part i was wondering about for free 😎

I had to reread your post up there, for some reason I was thinking you were wanting to switch it over to an 02 tank…. but then again …. I am slow from time to time 🙄

Thanks for your welcome, get the blue jay. I’m sorry I missed your post earlier. It’s been one of those days.

How’d you know it was a she? I kind of got the impression from her answers to my questions that AirForce doesn’t want it known they are using paintball parts if in fact they are. I’ll know for sure tomorrow when I call Catalina Cylinders back.

You’re right about the CO2 tanks. They are rated for 1800psi. The HPA tanks used in paintball are rated for 3000psi and 4500psi. I’m using a Crossfire 90ci 4500psi carbon fiber tank with a JDS Air Man regulator (3000psi output) to fill my TalonP and Disco. A standard paintball marker remote with slide-check (rated for 3000psi) serves as the fill station. I can take the little fill tank with me to the range or out in the field and get about 8 fills on the TalonP and 20 fills on the Disco.

It looks like you may be right. I called Catalina Cylinders but the person I needed to talk to was out. I’ll call back tomorrow. However, the specs for the 9010 tank are exactly the same as my TalonP tank. I had a suspicion that AirForce had used a stand paintball tank. If we are correct then the new Direct-Flo valve will fit any 3000psi paintball tank. How cool is that!?

Probably means you have a safe working pressure of 207 bar, rather annoying that there aren’t the thread dimensions on there

Looking on here http://www.catalinacylinders.com/

It looks like it is cylinder 9010, check if the dimensions look correct, if it is then that’s the standard 5/8-18UNF-2B HPA paintball tank threads, so yes you would be able to fit a bigger tank.

A quick call/email to Catalina Cylinders would clear things up by telling them the markings on your tank

Hope this helps and might actually be a break through for other TalonP owners

welcome to the nut house 1dollardean!

… so A/F wouldn’t or couldn’t give you the thread size of the talon~p tank?
I would call her back and tell her to find out for you!
I’m sure it was cheaper for them to change the threads on the valve color then it would of been to have tanks built for the existing threads…. also I’m not too sure what a bulk o2 tank is rated for, but for some reason I doubt it’s 3000lbs

quote dave_424:

What are all of the markings around the neck of the TalonP tank?

This is what’s on my TalonP tank:

DOT-3AL3000

TC-3ALH207 CLIFFDIV 08@11 0.31KG 0 21L

The DOT-3AL3000 indentifies the tank as a DOT approved aluminum 3000psi tank.

If I’m not mistaken the second line says this is an aluminum 207bar tank tested by Catalina Cylinders Cliff Impact Division on 08/11. I do not know what the 0.31KG 0 21L means.

What are all of the markings around the neck of the TalonP tank?
