DIY barrel adapter methods for springer
I do a lot of shooting in my backyard and have experimented with different moderator designs for my various springers. I may be in the minority but I am convinced I have substantially lowered my overall noise level of my springers doing so. Please don’t derail my thread by telling me it doesn’t help…let me be blissfully ignorant if you think all the noise is mechanical
The weakest part of my designs is where I secure it to the barrel. I’m using the wrapped tape method, and to be honest I’m doing “OK” with it, but I’d rather come up with something more mechanically solid as I have to grip my moderator to cock the barrel. Doing so a couple thousand times (I plink a lot :biggrinn: ) worries me I’m going to have some undesired movement or compression of the tape – ultimately leading to alignment and clipping issues.
Any tips for making the barrel end of the moderator use a more secure mechanical method? I’m thinking a couple set screws or something but haven’t figured out how to incorporate a thick enough adapter to have threads for the set screw. I don’t have a lathe so can’t turn solid tapered cone type pieces that some of the commercial ones come with.

I have one that i pressed on. Was pretty easy but be careful with this method. I used my squat rack and a bottle jack. The bars for the squat rack were square so made it easy to get everything setup. I put the bottle jack on the bottle bar then a peice of 2×8 so i didn not have steel on steel with the jack and the barrel. I then sandwished the barrel length wise between the bottle jack and the top cross bar of the squak rack. Wish i had pics. But basically its a poor mans hydraulic press. Just try to picture a bottle jack wood barrel wood top brace that is parallel to the floor. Keep everything straight and jack up the jack. Presses the end on nice and easy. The barrel has to be removed from the gun first!
Hope this helps. And your not crazy springers can benefit but the hardpart is getting the harmonics and barrel whip stable so it dosnt destroy the ldc or accuracy.
