DIY BullPups, an M-rod and AA S510

Short version, my father and I have started tandem Bullpup projects, started on dads stock tonight.

Long version, we bought dad a .22″ M-rod for Christmas last year he is now hooked. He modified his Benjamin Trail Synthetic stock to fit hte .22″ M-rod action, came out very nice, GREAT feel and look,

He bought another M-rod in .25″ with synthetic stock last month and now saving for a Talon-P, (he really likes my new Talon-P). We both have been fascinated with Bull-Pups for their rifle performance in tidy carbine-esque package, (cartoonish aesthetics aside). Dad tossed around the idea of buying the MDRL stock/kit, in the end chose to take on the project himself though did mention the MDRL stock/kit may be in his future for the other M-rod.
My project centers on an Air Arms S510 Super Extra FAC in .22 I purchased same time we bought Dads M-rod. Really enjoy my S510 though with the Leapers 6-24×56 sidewinder mounted it is very nose heavy, as a result mainly only shoot it rested, would prefer to use it as a hunting rig as well, converting it BullPup seems like the next step.
Last weekend dad I and went over to Golby Walnut here in Portland, http://www.gobywalnut.com/ spent about an hour and half picking through the bins and racks till we found acceptable Black Walnut that was quite cheap yet still somewhat pleasant to the eye, (pretty sure dad came away withe nicer blank), cheap enough that we wouldn’t cry if we messed it up. 😆
Dad left me with his measurements for his M-rod, he wants to build similar to the “A Team” hybrid Bull-pup here;

Tonight I started on dads stock to the dimensions he provided, turned out ok, somehow nicked my radius cutter for the air tube trough which left a small raised ridge midway down the trough, should sand out easy enough. With the bulk of machine work out of the way he’ll finish the stock to his liking. Bought a couple bits just for this endeavor. No real experience machining wood though many years carving and machining custom cylinder heads for customers worldwide. Ran initial cuts in a dried 2×6 board, love the way wood machines on the mill.
