Do I need a hammer weight with a Co2 adapter?

Do I need to install a hammer weight when using the AF Co2 adapter?

Almost done with my best friends 40th b-day present, a Talon SS, with a 12″ .22 cal barrel, running on Co2. Just waiting for one of Wok’s butts (he he), and one of Subssonic’s inserts.

First session over the chrony had 15.98g JSBs flying at 500 fps. The bottle was warm enough to put out some decent pressure and I was really hoping for some more energy. Any ideas folks?

its a hi flo with, yes, a lighter return spring, and one more less obvious difference.

the brass face bottom port(sealing surface) is larger, both allowing more room for gas to flow, but also makes the valve more difficult to open. this both raises the necessary opening force with lower gas pressure of co2, and allows the larger co2 molecule to properly flow.

me thinks that if one were inclined to open the threaded space between the seal and valve body(a la dyotat valve), you could use warm co2 to really knock the hell out of some shite.

The co2 adapter valve appears to be a condor valve. The opening in the talon valve is much smaller (more restrictive). I’m not sure of the return spring set up. You would think that it is a lighter spring on the co2 valve compared to HPA but I could be wrong. If you decide to eventually run HPA through your co2 valve you may need to add a condor weight or a heavier one piece hammer, however, if the co2 valve has a softer valve return spring…then you may not need the added hammer weight at all. I am trying to remember the specifics…I think someone once told me the specifics about the co2 valve…but alas I can’t remember what I had for breakfast most days. PTS due to raising five young kids and working three jobs….

Hopefully this is not a dumb question. Is the valve on the CO2 adapter different from the standard Talon valve?

any valve work, while more effective using hpa, will benefit co2 as well.

polish and port the stem, use a heavy hammer with a high tophat, and drill out the transfer port in the adapter body, maybe add a hole or 2.

only other way to wrench much more from the co2 besides heat or air contamination, is of course use a longer barrel.

Why would polishing make a difference to speed?

I like to use Hpa tank with co2 adapter. they can shot 900 fps with cp pellets.

I polished the valve stem on my Co2 adapter and use JSB 13.43’s, and with a warm tank, get just under 600 fps. The little extra fps I got by polishing the stem helped the accuracy. I put a metal washer under each end of the delrin caps on the hammer to up the weight to 55 grams.

The best advice you will get is to simply try different configurations and test. I am about to do the same thing. I have a variety of hammer weight combinations so I will try them out and report my findings. “power seeking” in co2 becomes illogical once efficiency is compromised (might as well go pcp at that point). The key will be most power and still high shot count. Good luck.

I dont know about in .22 but in .177 the stock ss is around 11~12ftlb with it wound all the way up. You could try a hammer weight though i think it would do more to how much CO2 is used then how much power you have. Though i really dont know as only used CO2 for a very short time.
