Does anyone make metal breeches for the airforce guns?

No steel insert in the factory piece for me either. No room in my replacement breech for an insert or I will run into the o-ring groove.

Looks like there is a lot of interest in these. If all goes well I will try to have something ready to ship within a week.

on the threading part for the cocking knob a steal insert would take care of that problem, in fact I think Airforce uses one on there derlin if I remember right. I am not sure on this combination either just a thought maybe to look into.

I don’t know how well Teflon will hold up in this instance. I know it does good at reducing friction and wear when it is under an even load but my concern is how the breech rides off the end of the barrel. The original breech in my gun was starting to oval out on the muzzle side from the side loading forces involved in cocking the gun with the cocking knob being offset and the breech only being supported by a small portion of the barrel when in the partially open position. My other concern would be the integrity of the threads for the cocking knob, I think Delrin is much better for threading than Teflon.

In all honesty though I really don’t work with Teflon enough to know what to expect.

Metal being familiar with some materials I have machined, have you ever thought about teflon this stuff is like soap! we used to use it in a hard area of wear in printing presses and bindery machines it will out wear steal and as far as I know harmless to Aluminum. I think it might be on the expensive side and a little heavier than derlin but my thinking is it would never wear out just a thought maybe it has been tried or allready checked into, Like I said the only thing that might be discouraging is the price! What size round stock would you need to machine one? I will check on prices for you. I seen this on a search if I can get it in here I will try and do more mainly just the cost and where to get it looks like Mcmaster Carr is one place

Hey Saw, I’ve definitely got your name memorized as one of the dudes I will contact when these are ready. I didn’t forget about you or the breech, just been busy with other things.

Bronze would probably solve the binding issues I had with the 6061 but it would be significantly heavier than the Delrin or Aluminum. I believe this would lead to a loss in velocity unless you also upgraded to a heavier hammer or mainspring. The problem with that is you end up with a heavier trigger pull or slower lock time and more recoil.

The Aluminum I’m trying out now is a grade engineered for wear resistance without having to hard anodize and only adds minimal weight over the factory piece.

Sawtime is correct. I’m working on one as we speak. The original version I made out of 6061 Aluminum was not cocking smoothly due to the properties of the material. I recently made version 2.0 late last week out of a harder wear resistant grade of Aluminum and want to do some testing before I start selling to make sure you guys won’t run into any problems. If you are interested I will let you know when I’m ready to sell.
