Q:

Don’t Buy a Scuba Tank off of Craigslist

I’m in a world of hurt.

Paid US $175 for a 100 cf steel tank with a DIN valve. The dive shop told me that there were two cracks in the threads and that the tank is no good.

Only buy tanks from a dive shop or brand new. Carbon fiber tanks can only be hydro tested 3 times before becoming useless. It will cost 1/4 of the price to get the thing hydro-tested, inspected, and filled.

Here is the cost of choosing to go pcp:

Talon $415
HP Tank $145
Nikon Scope $135
Bipod $60
Shroud $66
DIN adaptor $70
100 cf tank $175
Inspections $40

Grand Total $1106

It may be as much as an AR-15, but being able to drop a starling in a residential area without causing a stir makes it all worth it.

Opinion: Air rifles are so much more fun than firearms. This is coming from a guy who has shot every small arm in the US Army vault, including the MK 19 grenade launcher.

Anyways, what was I saying…oh yeah…beware of buying used SCUBA tanks.

If they say there are cracks then drill a hole in that thing to make it unusable. Not a time to worry about the cost.

I personally do not buy used stuff unless it is dirty cheap because there is no warranty or recourse if it turns out to be crap.

Have you contacted the Seller on Cragslist? May not known it was bad?

I voted equal! Definitely shot more air than powder! Reason, after initial investment, pellets cost less than cartridges!.

I like the condor because can be loaded left handed, My bolt powder rifles because they are: bolt action repeaters.

Sam 😎

DA, get a carbon fiber tank, provided that you have a place to get it filled to 4500psi. It’s worth the money and will last you quite a while.

I’m going to take the tank to another dive shop and get a second opinion. The good news is that the DIN valve can be removed an used again. If the tank fails a second inspection then I’m going to make it into a fancy bullet trap.

Live and learn.

Wow did you contact the seller.

wouldn’t have bought the out of inspected tank but for 1/4 of it’s value , if not then they could of had it inspected and hand me the tank at 175.

I have shot my pcp more than any other guns that i have owned. When i first bought spring guns i shot allot, but nothing compared to shooting this condor.

How bad are the cracks, and what have you done with the tank.

sorry about your dilemma.

Good morning Pab! err…good afternoon? what is it about 15:30 there?

Right DA, and that’s why it is called the journey to the dark side! 😉

And of course most people don’t buy everything at the same time.
They buy a TSS, or Condor, a very cheap scope, and a pump. Then they find the necessity for more quiet performance. Then maybe a better scope. By then they are tired of pumping so here comes a tank…usually a 3000psi tank. which they soon find doesn’t yield enough fills. Now comes that cerbon fiber tank, or a COMPRESSOR! 😀 In which case your estimate is a few thousand dollars short. Somewhere in there comes all of the other PCP guns that we just can’t live without. 😀

LMTSS; order that AA S410 Carbine for your wife today. 😉

Good morning Jeff!
