Q:

Dragon Slayer 454-SureFire Raptor Slugs

Finally caught a break and got some free time to take the old DS454 back out into the wild again. I also bought some 454 cal/227.1 gr Raptor bullets from SureFire Casting (Jerry) and wanted to capture the odd but COOL whizzing sound of the bullets since most of you haven’t heard it before. Like the 6-7-8-9 ring slugs, the Raptors are performers.

I took my very first “AIRGUN” HOG with the Raptors and the Dragon Slayer:

The Raptor before entering the hog

The Raptor after entering the skull and shoulder

Ye ole’ hog

But first I needed to change/add a couple of items and then RESEAL the gun. To read about that, you can visit my BLOG: http://www.tofazfou.blogspot.com/

The Raptors are extremely accurate in my DS. Especially for such a low powered big bore. The one thing i forgot to do was to clean my barrel and i made a mistake of shooting HEAVILY LUBED bullets before the Raptors. But groups were still great in my mind.

Here’s the short video. TURN UP THE SOUND!: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FL8GbFg1zqw&list=UUDBsDGN9infjfprvoHuqE6w&index=1&feature=plcp

Stay tuned!

Nice shoot’n and helluva good look’n breakfast!

quote Tofazfou:

GTBJ…this ones for YOU:
….and heres the results of the hog…lol….ummmmmm!:

That’s what I’m talking about, Fat Boy love flapjacks and fresh pork!

Dude! A whole mildot? I guess you lack confidence or thought I’d send you a flyer? LOL!

Seriously, thats the first vid Ive seen really putting the. Cam on the line.

ahhhhhh Jerry, there you are. FINALLY! What you are hearing is the SLUG zipping past the mic at ROUGHLY 1 MILDOT away which is 3.6 inches. I held the first RIGHT mildot to the left of the camera. So the bullets were literally zipping RIGHT BY the mic.

See the kind of shit i do for you guys…lol! I’m shooting roughly 4″ away from a 500 dollar (old price) HD camera. And the scary part is……i’ve never grouped these bullets at 100 yards so i had no idea how OPEN the groups would be. In other words………..I COULD HAVE SHOT MY DAMN CAMERA GETTING THIS FOOTAGE! 😆

Just joking guys……….it’s all part of the game!

Jerry, also, these slugs sound exactly the same as i remember them many moons ago. But you and i and RC have only heard them from the TIP of the muzzle and on forward which is also blanketed by the muzzle blast. So the sound is going away from our ears and it gets FAINT. But oh boy did the mic pic up the sound pretty good as the Raptors zipped by. And i turned down the volume on the mic on my camera so i would no longer get the noise of the MOTOR running.

SO YEAH JER!!!! THEY ARE THAT LOUD WHEN THEY SHREIK!

And speaking of the Olive drab and white slug……i’m saving them for now…lol. I like them. Only the Purple and Red slugs were used in the making of this video.

THANX JERRY! You guys keep making quality ammo cause i’m gonna KEEP buying. In the next week or two, I’m placing another order for the Raptors. Seriously!!!!…you might as well cast and package up another 100 of them cause i’m buying.

BTW, I like the still shot of the Raptors early on but just for info purposes, the olive drab and white are not standard colors (except for Ced, he gets anything he wants). (BTW, Oykas will take that last comment as proof that I and all who comment here are in a conspiracy!)

OK, I played the video on my smart phone but while it looked great, I couldn’t appreciate the sound as I had to be outside…at an airport… with the loudest billion dollar plane you ever heard circling the field…

So, I just got home and enjoyed the video properly. AWESOME job Ced!

Now, I’ve heard the slugs before so I can tell you that getting the sound on video/audio is not easy and I can also say you’re hearing the doppler effect. The pitch is a bit higher than I remember and that makes sense given the camera geometry. How cool is that? Video of the slug literally screaming by. Thanks Ced.

Oh, sweet shots at 75 yards. The second shot was absolutely dead on the first shot. You must have pulled the third one high and right.. 😆 😆 😆

45s aren’t sparrow guns but it looks like you could shoot them at 75 with a dirty barrel. We know the Raptor is a pretty good round but even if it was laser or sonic guided ( 😉 ), someone has to hold the laser, nice shooting!

Oh yeah, it will be there. Its in the design/profile of the slug. I’ve been shooting these things for over 6 years now and the ringing comes with EVERY slug. 😀

More Raptor testing to come!

Hopefully that sweet sound is still there!!! 😆

SYN: Thanx bro. They definitely might be laser guided for sure. They are awesomely accurate. And guess what, that barrel was FILTHY as all get out. I cleaned the barrel when i got home and OMG, the first patch weighed and ounce…..lol! So now that the barrel is clean, i’m expecting ever tighter laser guided groups….lol

Thanx for watching and
STAY TUNED!

Backyard: Yep! I consider video taping and photography a TOOL to what we do. Both you and i watching that trajectory is what i consider educational and we learn from it. And that’s 1 of the fun aspects of videography. I watch and record so much footage from my outings and I learn something, small or big, each and every time. One of them is…..from this video, i learned that at 100 yards away, you, nor i, nor any hog or deer can outrun the lowly speed and distance of 100 yards and 709 FPS…LOL!!!!!

As always great job and nice shooting.

And your comment on the trajectory explained it since it was at 100 yards, I thought it was a cannonball at first 😆

MONEYSHOT: LOL, that’s funny as hell man..lol. But i understand. I’ve also talked over the forums to a couple of people for like 3 years then all of a sudden they post a pic finally and they were BLACK and i said the same thing you did, “i didn’t know you were black”….lol. Also, at 42 seconds, i simply put the video in REVERSE during the editing process…lol. Your reaction is just what i wanted…lol. The Raptor was shot into some sage brush bushes over 100 yards away from me. No way they would come back from that.

Slayer5 and everyone else: That hog pic is from a LONG time ago and not current. Went to Oklahoma on a AIRGUN hog hunt with all the guys from Airgun Advise. Best fucking roadtrip i’ve ever been on. Driving from Cali. to OKC was a HOOT (NO, not uncle hoot..lol). On the road, me and my buddy saw every game from Rabbits, to Antelope, to Coyotes, to Deer, to Javelina. I even stopped in Texas to shot some Jacks with the DS and the Raptors:

GTBJ…this ones for YOU:
….and heres the results of the hog…lol….ummmmmm!:

Ta2011: No sir…i did not. Sorry!

RC: I’ve shot them also out of my JH457 and they were awesomly accurate at those power levels too. But man, i gotta know how fast that Ranger pushed them? But ohhhh yeah, them suckers whistle at every power level. See, now your gonna have to order some more and shoot them without earplugs….lol. That right there was a poor attempt at selling more Raptors…LOL. Jerry put me up to it….lol Just joking!

Wow, what a crazy sound.

Are you sure they aren’t laser guided or sonically controlled? 😆

Sweet hawg there!!! 😯

Darn it! I’m checking in from work and the bandwidth police won’t let the video through!

Tof,

Really cool video as usual. When I shot the Raptors Jerry sent me to try, I did not notice the whizzing sound, but then I had my hearing protection on.

The one thing I noticed about the Raptors was that they were very accurate.

Nice trophy picture also.

Regards,

Roachcreek
