Q:

DS Airwolf with .25 smooth twist barrel? Or Air Ranger 80FPE

Anyone done the road already with barrel swap? I think i will buy a 600mm .25 cal ST barrel along with a new aw mct .22. Will the high power setting be enough to push the .25 pellet with good accuracy up to 100 meter?

I had a AW mct in .22 in tactical suit before and i can´t really see myself buy another rifle without the electronic trigger again. It is just the best i have ever owned. And since my latest buy was a cricket i really miss a good 2 stage trigger.

But since i have never owned a Air Ranger i would like to hear what others think about it in 80 FPE version. Ted did a review and he says it is running hot with normal pellet (not sure if the JSB King was available when test was done).

How is cast bullets with this gun and what grain is recommended?

I know the AW will never hit as hard as the Ranger but i like how quiet the aw is with the shroud and mk5 silencer. Could the Ranger be almost as quiet with another silencer fitted? Without the length of a canon? Hugget shroud availble for the ranger? Milbro?

I´ve read somewhere that someone cracked the programming on the Airwolf MCT electronics? If anyone has a link to that forum (i think it was a polish forum) i would appreciate it!

Airwolf in My hands again. Hugget shroud,.25 ST barrel, boltprobe and mag on order! Do i need more stuff to make it?

Thanks guys for the input. I think i will order an Airwolf in .22 and that 600 mm barrel smooth twist. I guess i have to order another shroud for it or does the .22 cal silencer and shroud pass a .25 pellet? I dont want to drill the parts up…

The AW won’t have any problem handling 100 meters in .25.
The AR biggest issue is it isn’t regulated and there is a wide velocity swing. That and it is a air hog.
With a Hugget the AR is pretty quiet.
Mostly you hear the hammer and a authoritative phhewttt!

I was shooting my .25 50 fpe Ranger with Hugget shroud along with my .22 FX Royale 400 and .22 Matador in 20-30 mph gusting winds at 50 yards today.
The AR was a bit louder than the other two but as I said. a phhewtt! A lot of air comes out of that baby.
Of the three the AR would be the last to go.
Nothing wrong with the Daystate barrels.
If you want a smooth twist get the FX 500 with itt’ss regulated consistent velocity and high shot count.
Something shorter and bad ass a 50 fpe Ranger with Hugget.
Get an AW with all it’s manners and at 100 meters you will likely be the weak link.
The 80 fpe Ranger is just too much of a good thing for all but special applications,IMO.

I have a old 3 didget # gun .223 ,tuned 100 + fpe. Daystate rangemaster solid slug 37gr. shoots 1097 fps.They were built w/ 25” firearm barrel very accurate. I have a custom ldc. backyard friendly.80 fpe. don’t come w/ldc. or shroud.

Yes, the 80 fpe Ranger is too hot from the factory for the JSB’s, but it can be turned down. Cricket on the yellow has a piece on it. I think it is on you tube as well.

Still, there isn’t an electronic trigger on the Ranger. Always wondered how the Wolf would do with a longer bbl. It is a bit slow in .25 as it comes. AOA at one time said they could turn it up. I understand they now say they can’t. 😕

The Wolf is pretty much a .22 Wolf fitted with a .25 bolt and bbl. Never understood why they didn’t do it up Right. I guess the Brit’s just aren’t into power and long range the way we are. 😆
