Duct Seal lined pellet trap.
I have made a pellet backstop using Duct Seal. After several thousand rounds of .22 cal JSB pellets, it has become very heavy. Any one separated and cleaned up the duct seal. Any suggestions? Yes, sounds like buying more seal. It does a good job. ❓

Be careful if you try it. Don’t add anything your not sure of to a hot pot of lead.
Just guessing, but if the duct seal has any moisture it may splatter lead like water dropped in hot grease.
I’m new here, just getting my first PCP, but have been reading awhile.
I think Duct Seal has a high melt point. But, lead does not. Wondering if the lead can be melted out of it? I have a lead pot somewhere and can set up an experiment outside (fumes?).
BTW, most hemostats you get now are imported. Used to get US made ones from a surgical supply house that took in old ones from hospitals for resale. Could get all kind of instruments for $1 each. Maybe there are some of those businesses around.
Good forum…learning a LOT!!
I got mine from a medic buddy
i would think any would do, you know like the ones near the
cashier at a hardware store
I will try a post up a pic of mine later

Get yourself a good pair of hemostats
nothing better for plucking lead out of Duct Seal
You can get pretty efficiant at it, I pluck every 3 mos. or so
Then again I do not shoot as much lately
Good Luck

saw,
as an expert, can you recommend a brand of hemos? :11: :nono:
My problem with mine is I have shot it for over two years and have never cleaned it. Hemostats just would not cut it the ends of my finger and thumb would fall off before I finished the chore.
I need a small gold dredge. 😛
Has anyone tried heating this stuff up? Do we know how they make it, is it extuded with pressure or poured into a mold?
I really don’t shoot inside the house, if I did I would need a backhoe or County Medical examiner to dispose of the methhead bullet trap. Getting the lead out is what I would like, I really don’t care about the duct seal altho it is probably as expensive as the lead in the trap.

Uh huh…also been there. I just do it the hard way…lay the trap on its back, sit down with a screw driver and a pair of needle nose, and pull out as many as I can. You have to start at one side and move to the other side, otherwise you’ll just cover up the holes of the deeper ones.
Pull out as many as you can, the mash it down and smooth it out, adding a new slab when needed.
I use the expanding foam insulation to make my back stop, I had a used sub woofer box.
All I did was put a layer of old rags in the back and then a can or two of the foam then I added a rag outside the box and shoved it in to the foam and box.
I have closed to 1000 rounds in it ( they don’t seem to go very deep) and when its time to empty I just cut the foam and rags out then redo it.
I built a trap with an 1/8 sheet steel back. A couple layers of old carpet in front of the steel, with a layer of foam in front of the carpet. I use whatever I can find at home. My son who has a duct seal trap says it pretty close to as quiet as his. Every 1,000 pellets or so, take out the foam and carpet and pour the pellets out. Have to replace the carpet and foam periodically. I has a TSS. Barely dents the steel. Would need something thicker with higher power at close range.
Northside,
I have one of those two ton tillie duct seal traps that I would like to get the pellets out of also.
I also use a crosbow target for a trap. It will even catch the Ranger 45 for a few shots then they go thru if your stacking them, same for the 25 LBt.
I took my first crosbow target I have used for a couple years down to the burn pile this spring, when we burn the years branches and trimmings, I will scoop the lead up from the ashes wash it off, let it dry really important, and cast it again.
Too bad you can’t just melt that Duct seal down and pour off the good stuff.

Been there and done that. Use a putty knife to dig in and take some of the pellet laden putty out. I have an Archer trap and it gets really heavy. I use a small collapsible two wheeled pull cart that I use to move it down range and back. Never take it off the cart, I just leave it sitting on the pull cart pointed at me. Figured if I hit the cart what the heck
I thought putting a wider, flatter handle on the trap because the one that came on it is too small, narrow, and round to carry it comfortably.

I bet you could fry a turkey in duct seal…the stuff is so greasy.
