Q:

Dud shots in Talon SS

I’ve been shooting my Talon SS a bit lately and over the past week. I’ve had about 4 dud shots where my gun is very quiet and the POI drops by a LOT – like at least 1 foot at 50 yards. Then after the dud shot I reload and the gun seems to be fine.

Whats the deal?

Well, I followed along with that sweet vid pablouk made and everything went along smoothly. The gun is shooting great, so only time will tell if the problem has been solved.

Worst case scenario, my gun got cleaned!

And I used some Permatex Silicone Spray because I was too impatient to find some “Dry Silicone Spray”. Hope I don’t regret it.

Thanks a bunch. 😀

I’m having the same problem with my standard Talon.

Nice video Pab. Now does it matter if I have a Silicon Spray Lube or a “DRY” Silicon Spray Lube? Same thing or no?

Bean and Pab nailed it. I too have had 4 of these rifles and everyone after several hundred shots did it. Strip it completely down, removing the hammer and slide, barrel and spring and clean everything, including the inside of the frame very thoroughly. I bought a can of aerosol spray dry silicon and squirt a good shot on everything before putting it back together and they’ll shoot strong for many hundreds of shots again.

I’ve had the same problem with both of mine. The only clear issue I could find was that my frame was dirty and must have effected the movement of the hammer. Removing the internals and cleaning everything then applying a dry lube (spray on, let dry, buff lightly) solved the problem on my SS frame for a couple thousand shots. It was happening again when my trigger bit wore our so I repeated the procedure and added a condor hammer weight when I reassembled. I ended up shooting this one mostly on CO2 so I eventually removed the extra weight.

The other one just started a couple of weeks ago and I have not torn it down for cleaning yet but it will get the hammer weight when it goes back together.

A shroud that extends the frame (ie – not a barrel end slip on) pushes a lot of debris backwards that gets past the bushings onto the PW and spring and hammer. It’ll slow things down if enough build up. If you are not using this type of shroud if could still just need a cleaning, maybe just not as often.

It’s an easy thing to try first.
