Q:

E-TAC problems…SOLVED….

actually the problem im having is the check valve in the fill nipple…..it either stays closed so i cant fill the tank or it will open and then not close back up when i try to bleed off the scuba tank….I am opening the bleed valve quickly so its a “rush” of air in an attempt to get it to close….I feel like a noob with this question but ive ran both my tanks down to 1500psi trying to get this to work… 👿

Yep
I am not trying to start a witch hunt by all means
MM is a great guy, and I would never want to tarnish his name by all means
Heck, I just wanna know what happened
His work is grade A+ beautiful work to say the least
I will say I read this post and took the fill nipple out to give her some lube
and hooked it up to my tank and the o-ring and screw went flying across the room.
I think the SM holds it in place till you have pressure in the system, could be wrong though.
Actually I can photo the piece of SM and post, just hang in there

i spent the day running arround town looking for some silicone grease but to no avail…My tanks are still empty from the last attempt to make it work but i’m not going to give up cause like saw the gun fits soo much better now thats its a little longer…and yes im gonna try the slow fill tecnique once my tanks are refilled and i can get some grease (i really dont want to order some)…

Saw- i too am thinking of modding the fill nipple to restrict the movement of the check valve in it… 🙄

Mine didn’t have any sm but I know he’s made several diffrnt version so that ain’t saying much. I never had any problems with the long, removable/straight drop no cant version. But I always filled slowwwwwwwwwwwwwwww.

Is there not a piece of sheetmetal in there to keep the
check valve in place?
Cause I of course fucked mine up
I did an install and slowly filled
heard a snap and drained and found
a fucked up piece of sm
I put a plug in the fill port and away I go
Jim is good people and I will figure
What went wrong when he gets back from vacation
Damn the TSS is solo much better now as far as ergonomics go

Some one else had the same problem a while back. Turnes out they were trying to fill too fast so when the back-check valve on the etac would pop open, it had so much rapidly built up pressure behind it that it would get stuck. If yours is sticking in both direction as you say, most likely a dry o-ring. Try the slow fill method just for kicks.

I’ve tried….I’m still waiting for a responce….but I understand that MM is a busy man so I don’t hold it against him…

If it is not closing then chance are the oring needs some DIVERS SILICON and make sure the check can move freely once install. The pressure should push that close easily.

I figured that was the problem with filling but now I can’t disconnect without draining the tank cause it dosnt close..

Subssonnic,

When I got my last one, I found that you can screw that nipple too far in, on these short unremoveable tank ones you have to put the nipple and the guage on yourself, and when you screw it in too far it hits the valve spring retainer and it will not fill.

Don’t know if that is your problem but it was with mine.

yea thats what i did just before i posted this….im about ready to hunt down a new o-ring and see if thats the problem…thanks thou

if u remove the fill nipple out of the e-tac u can remove the plunger i would check the o-ring on it then grease it
