Let me give you an example that will simplify the whole thing. BC is important because it helps your ballistic calculator (Strelok) predict drop and to a lesser degree wind drift. There is another factor I did not cover in my video; gyroscopic stability. I’ll leave that one alone for now. So which is the best range to check BC? Check it at the range you expect to shoot most. Honestly small changes in BC numbers won’t effect you that much from 50-80 yards. It becomes important when you want to shoot that 150 yard pigeon and kill it one shot one kill.
Example:
@50 yards my calculated BC was .0429
@100 yards calculated BC was .0469
890 fps using .0429 predicted drop 150 yards 8.3 MRAD
890 FPS using .0469 predicted drop 150 yards 8 MRAD : this is the difference between a kill ,wounded, or miss
890 FPS BS .0429 @ 80 yards 1.9 MRAD
890 FPS BC .0469 @ 80 yards 1.8 MRAD : both are a kill shot

Pippo, how do you calculate the BC without it being “non deterministic”
KS is referring to a non deterministic BC therefore you will get a different BC at different distances.
The problem not being deterministic is that probably you will get a different BC for the same distance the next time.
In other words, you are not calculating the BC but you are measuring it and the measurement is based on variables that could and will change (like the Wind speed and direction for example).
IMHO
KS, is it best to calculate your own BC at different distances or is it shit-the-same? Will I get different BC results measuring velocity at 50 75 and 100 or is 50 enough?

Very very nice. You put a ship load of your time into this and I for one appreviate that. The tediousness and the the time are noted. Hope folks get what you are saying because it is knowledge that will help your shooting. My favorite part was the Cornish game hens. You know I am the stupidest squirrel in the tree.
First off, great video and thank you for all of your contributions to the sport. I know this test would be extremely hard to perfect. I just want to point out some questions that came up during your video.
Why was the wind drift the same between calibers in the 50yrd test?
I noticed in the 50yrd group you called the wind drift the same. I think the way you sorted that out was slightly ineffective. The .25 group was clearly closer to the bulls eye on average and I might even suspect the two out to the right were pulled by the shooter. If you took and average as to how close each shot was to the bull you would still find the .25 to be closer with the two outliers. Plus how can one know for sure a relatively large or larger gust of wind did not pick up on those 2 shots that clearly landed outside the general grouping? As you did say, the wind was rather inconsistent.
Why does doping improve your group?
In the 100yrd test with the .22 you re-shoot at 920fps and the second time you dope for wind, but I am curious if that means you adjusted the scope or used reticle hold-over?
Why does better BC mean less wind drift?
The .25 grouping at the higher BC was tighter at 100yrds than the .25 group with lower BC. But the larger group still had a wind drift that was very similar to the lower BC wind drift. So it was less accurate. The difference between the .22 groups of different BC were where you drew the conclusion that a lower BC meant higher wind drift. In this case it seems to be true but how can you make that conclusion when the .25 did not show an obvious difference? Also, you shoot with the .22 again this time at 890fps and get less wind drift but now I am thinking how long did it take to make that adjustment and what was the difference in the wind reading from the kestrel? With regard to accuracy both the .22 ggroups look fairly similar so one could not deduce that a higher BC is more accurate based on the data you provided.
At 21:05 what are you showing? .25@? vs ?@890, I’m assuming .25@930 and .22@890, the best of each caliber.
How can you examine the affect wind has on the pellet and then say you are going to totally ignore it too? Then later on you reference wind events using your kestral…
I believe your video brought up some good points and was done nicely but needs more consistent variations in wind like wind from only one direction. Also more samples that have been averaged because it seems like you take one instance as being the end all say all.

Are the good old times where you just picked up your gun to go hunting gone forever?
Apparently today you have to go out with several guns in several calibers and several pellets selections (shape and weight), your PC, then you need to measure humidity and wind speed with appropriate tools.
Now finally you can calculate the best BC for the shot and choose the better caliber/pellet, then you take the regulator in order to set the speed of the pellet accordingly.
Now that you are ready for the shot, what happens if your quarry changes angle of height or distance or if the wind speed changes? Are you going to re-calculate everything again?

You can do it by measuring drop at a specific range from zero , velocity difference or time to target
Is there a way to calculate bc without the use of a second chrony? Can you use the bullet drop instead? I have an Air Chrony so the “shooting hole” is a bit small, but maybe I should just build a suit of armour for it so nothing can happen if I miss.
