Edgun 2339

My Edgun adventure has not been without its bumps. Tony and I had a miscommunication, and he sent me a rifle with the wood stock. I don’t like this stock one bit (I’d prefer a grey one). Hopefully, he will correct that. The wood stock is clearly hand made, and lacks the polish of the standard stock. It has many sharp edges and a glossy finish with a tacky feel. No sir – I do not like it.

But, the gun….the gun I LIKE. It has a scratch on the air resevoir (Tony gave me $50 off), but that doesn’t bug me in the least. I have no intention of reselling this thing. And, I’ll touch it up with some black lipstick if I decide I want it to be pretty.

It came tuned to shoot JSB Jumbo 18’s at 920fps, and I have made no adjustments. I chronied 100 shots, starting at 200 bar. Here are the results (green, F1 Chrony):

I’ve seen some guys post Edgun shot strings with less variation. But, I’m quite happy with this, considering I’m getting 60-70 pretty darn consisent shots. The efficiency seems pretty remarkable. And realistically, if I’m out on a hunting trip, I can shoot this gun 100 times on a charge. Wow!

Accuracy…

I took it in the backyard to try a few shots at 20 yards. The groups were okay, but not great (likely because I was fighting off a swarm of mosquitos). So, I took it to the range to see what it can do when I’m not trying to protect my blood supply.

I tried JSB 18’s (normal, lubed with Napier, and lubed with Krytech). I also tried Kodiaks and Barracudas. They all had the same POI (nice to know, but unlubed JSB’s won out).

I was shooting off a wobbly plastic shooting rest (Predator). It worked pretty good for my Marauder, but doesn’t fit an Edgun worth a crap. So, I’ll be looking for an alternative bench setup. I was pretty shakey, and completely unable to “lock” the croshairs into position. And speaking of the Marauder, this would be a good time to mention the noise volume. They are about the same, but sound slightly different. The Edgun has a slightly lower tone.

Anyway, I started at the 20 yard indoor pistol range… The Predator rest did not fit on the narrow bench, so I was SUPER wobbly. It was aggrevating.

Still, these results were inspiring. So, I decided to get outside, and try it out at the 50 yard range…

So, did I pull that 5th shot? The Predator rest is fairly solid on the wider, range table. But, it still isn’t as good as a couple good sand bags. It doesn’t matter… because, now I’m too impatient to shoot any more 50 yard groups. Off to 100 yards…
Didn’t even bother to adjust the elevation knob – just used mildots (with a level).

From there, I lost patience with the paper punching, and promptly went to my Grandparent’s farm to slaughter starlings. As a challenge from my uncle, we set a gallon milk jug cap on end at 100 yards. Knocked it down on the first shot (bench rested).[/img]
