EDgun. East meets…………….East
I’ve had my new (to me) Edgun for a month or so now and like so many, I’m impressed with the quality, handiness, power and accuracy of this air gun. It’s really a great all around platform.
I had a Vortex Viper 2-7×32 with BDC on the rifle and it was working great but while browsing around online the other day, I came across one of my favorite scopes. It was formerly a PSO LPS Type 2 with a side mount for a PSL rifle, 4x, made by IOR. The previous owner trimmed off the mount (very professionally by the way), and mounted it in a set of Burris Zee rings. The result is a very rugged piece of combat glass that can be mounted to a picatinny rail.
The reticle is the old Dragunov style rangefinder with a BDC elevation adjustment calibrated for 7.62x54R. I zeroed the Edgun for 50 yards. I’m 1/2″ or so high at 35 yards, dead on at 20. 15 and 55 yards are BDC mark “2”. 10 yards is BDC 3.5.
This is a 70’s era scope and the glass is very, very nice. I’ve owned the more modern IOR 4×24 scopes and this one seems just as clear and rugged.
Anyway, I think it’s a good match. Very fast handling, enough hash marks for fast holdover, precise, repeatable comeups on the BDC.

Yes. And if memory serves me correctly, all short lines are 1/2 mil, long lines are one mil, all numerals are 1 mil tall, chevrons are 1/2 mil in height with 1 mil spacing between. So no matter the orientation of target of known size, whether horizontal, vertical or somewhere in between, an accurate measurement can be taken and target distance can be determined.
Yards or meters doesn’t matter, just keep your units consistent.
(Target size in yards * 1000)/mils subtended = distance in yards.
It’s a pretty handy reticle.

You can measure the crow with the reticle as well, for instance, the average hight of a man is 1.7 meters (the reticle is set for this height) if you see the man fixed at 4 it means the distance is 400 meters. The average height of the crow is 0.17 meters, so if it fits 4 it means — 40 meters 🙂
Yes, a Russian type reticule. That grade on the bottom left is for ranging man sized targets. Fit the man in the scale and theres your range.

The reticle is exactly copy of the Russia PSO scope (installed on SVD rifle).
It’s number 2044.
I’m not sure what number it is. I believe it was originally purchased by a member here on TAG and then sold to the guy that I bought it from. I’ll go look it over an see if I can find a number on it.

Here’s the current version. Illumination is battery powered and of course it’s ring mounted. I’m sure they still make the side mount version for some military outfits but the Dragunov reticle is no longer legal for import.

Some call them a poor man’s ACOG. I don’t know about that but it is one tough piece of kit.
They can be had used used for under $400. Very good optic. Here’s an example of one with rings, Butler Creek caps and shipped for $458.
