Edgun Hammer Spring adjustment to 20 fpe results.
Well, I’ve got my Edgun adjusted for 20fpe for Hunter Field Target without having to adjust the regulator. I suspect that the reg on my rifle had been adjusted by a previous owner because most doubted if I would be able to do this in the first place.
The first time I adjusted it, the gun was at about 160 bar or so. When I aired it back up, it was shooting real slow, like 550 fps or so. I guess the hammer was adjusted so light that it could barely open the valve. So I topped it off and tried again. This time the results are better.
I’m getting 65 consistent shots at two different power levels. Something of an inverted curve with a transition in the middle.
Pellet is JSB 14.3 grain

I’m going to refill at 30 shots or 165 bar. That’s half the match or more at most courses. I’m very pleased with the results but I thought it was interesting that it remained consistent for 35 shots at 19.5 fpe then increased throughout the next 35 shots and then return to consistency for the last 30 shots but at ~26 fpe.
I have two questions.
First, would it be better for me to adjust the reg down a bit? If so why?
Second, if I keep the reg at this setting, should I consider working from a lower fill pressure and work the bottom end of the curve? Maybe the lighter setting on the hammer spring might be more consistent by working less to open the valve?
Does any of this make an sense?

hi Paul,
to get 20 flbs with 14 gn you need a pelletspeed of about 800 fps.
When you look at the shotstring you see it climbing all the way, so hammerstroke isn’t powerfull enough to open the valve, or in other words the regpressure is much to high.
When you lower down the regpressure a lot (+/- 100 bar) and start with a weak hammerspring tension and keep this turning up then you see the speed is rising untill a certain point the pelletspeed doesn’t increase anymore then you have found the balance of pressure and springtension and you should have a whole lot of consitant shots.
