EdGun HST Slot Mod For Easy Scar Free Adjustments
Here is the modification I did to my HST so I could easily adjust it with a large screwdriver.
I taped off the entire action, put a plug in the end of the HST part and cut a slot in the aluminum part with a abrasive Dremel wheel. I then filed it nice with a tiny file, it works very, very well. And I can easily adjust the HST without mucking up everything with a pair of pliers.
I used a Sharpie pen to mark on half of the part so I could easily see my adjustments and count rotations in and out. I went back later and used a permanent paint pen to make it look proper and resist wear.

I did something similar. I drilled a small hole through both sides of the HST about 1/16 in from the end. Then I then insert a small Allen wrench through both holes to adjust HST. This works great but some times if I have the HST screwed in a bit to far, the steel shaft that goes through the center of the HST does not let me insert the Allen wrench through both sides. When this happens I can only insert the Allen wrench part way. But I still have enough leverage to easily turn the HST.
Why not use a dime or penny?
I wanted to machine flats onto the barrel so I could turn it with a wrench, but I couldn’t get it out of the rifle to machine it without using a pair or pliers… 😕
I did this (and cut down the spring) after I shot three shots over the chrony and found it to be shooting a few hundred fps too hot. The housing cut REALLY easily, like butter, I though it was going to be far harder than it was.
I love modifying rifles before I ever get a chance to actually shoot them. 😯
I’m not sure this is a total original idea. I think I remember seeing something along these lines a WAYS back. Like R2.0 back… Ed may have been slotting the HST housing from the factory back then, I can’t remember.
Unless you have a large flat head screwdriver with a small handle (which I have) you may need to pick up one of those right angle drivers (the kind that look like a ‘z’ with one flat and one philips). The trigger linkage can get in the way. 😉
It’s always the simple solutions that make you slap your forehead.
