Is the new offset worth the cost? you decide…
Just a little more information. Under the exact same conditions I recorded 105 db readings from a Colibri. You can see it on the Mutant review video. So the EDgun .25 is now on the same level as the Colibri
Just FYI:
Doubling of the volume (loudness) should be sensed as a level difference of +10 dB − acousticians say.
Doubling the sound pressure (voltage) corresponds to a measured level change of +6 dB ●
Doubling of sound intensity (acoustic energy) belongs to a calculated level change of +3 dB.
+10 dB is the level of twice the perceived volume or twice as loud (loudness) in psychoacoustics − mostly sensed.
+6 dB is the level of twice the (RMS) value of voltage respectively sound pressure − mostly measured ●
+3 dB is the level of twice the energy or power respectively intensity − mostly calculated.
For voltage and sound pressure in acoustics the measured RMS value (root mean square) is usually specified.
For sinusoidal AC signals, the peak value V0 or p0 is denoted by the term amplitude. VRMS = | V0 | / √ (2).

I got my offset on my .25 I don’t have a sound meter but I guaranteed it’s quieter then it was before
That’s a fact numbers and db meters and bullshit aside

For what it’s worth I shot with a friend today. He has a .25 EDgun and he hasn’t put the offset moderator on his gun yet from 10 feet away we both thought the offset moderator was significantly quieter than the standard.
No need the meter only picks up the peak sound and in fact both cases the sound meter reading was higher on both guns without a pellet.
Please do the tests again with Colibri and Ed .25 involved only. Please eliminate the sound of a pellet hitting your backstop.
Fudd the Colibri doesn’t have hammer slap, so given that theory the Colibri should have been quieter than the EDgun .25. Because the EDgun has hammer slap.

Thanks man! I think if you put the sound meter too close, you’ll capture a lot of the hammer slap sound as well. 3′ toward the front of the muzzle in my opinion would be where most of the noise projects. Then again, I’m no Hoot :hoot: so I don’t know crap.

First off I put those guns in the worst possible conditions, sound meter right at the muzzle and indoors. I figured A gun that is quiet at the muzzle will also be quiet at 3 feet. I have found that most guns are in the 100 db range or higher. When I read reports where a guy states that is gun is 60 db I just chalk it up to a guy using an iPhone and a it is just plain wrong. I should be using a class 1 sound meter that has circuitry that can actually capture the peak sound. Having said that the sound meter I use does correlate to my own “perceived sound”. Decibels only tell part of the story. Pitch, frequency, hearing loss and ambient noise also play a factor in the perception of “loudness”. In other words, sound is like a color, we all see a similar frequency of light waves that tells us the color of a thing but no one actually knows what the other person is actually seeing. So is 105 db quiet? Yes in the open air a gun that reads 105 db in my workshop with that meter in the same conditions is perceived quiet by everyone who shoots my gun. Is it quiet to you? I have no idea, just like I don’t know what hue you may see, is it blue or cerulean?
Keyser claims that after the addition of the offset moderator Matador .25 is as silent as Colibri.

No offense intended…but no air gun I’ve ever owned has come close to being as quiet as the .22 Colibri. The .25 Edgun is a loud, powerful gun. Loud….and no way short of a vented shroud, and an add-on LDC, a damn good one at that, ever got that gun anywhere near close to being as quiet as a Colibri. The .25 Edgun is a cannon…powerful, can be made quiet, but not silent!

I’m surprised to hear raving reviews of how quiet a Colibri (I assume your’s is a .22) is but you’re telling us it’s the same loudness as your moderated .25 Edgun? What is your perceived impression of which of these two is quieter and by how much?
Can you do a sound test on all your guns 3 shots side by side? Maybe in an outdoor setting 3′ from the muzzle? Add some background noise like a radio playing at 70 dB.

Pretty much the acoustic laboratory determinations I achieved with my testing back in 2007! I didn’t bother to copy write the results, but instead published the data as my personal contribution to science. I’m pleased to see my work has finally been acknowledged.
The primary message behind these data is “If you vent…you won’t repent!!!”

My .25 Std is more quiet with the offset moderator than stock for sure. It is also more quiet than with any “condom” type volume increase I came up with on my own. I tried many variants and was happy with my latest attempt. Everything I did added length. The offset moderator gives me exactly what I was looking for. I have not increased venting on the OE shroud and likely will not. I am confident modifications could make improvements, I just don’t think it is really necessary from where the gun is currently.
