Q:

EDgun R3 .30 caliber FIXED!!!!

I am starting a new thread so this information doesn’t get lost in the body of the other 5 page thread..
So as you know the new hammer was smashing the valve stem making it non-operational after anywhere from 100-1000 rounds My goal was to get a larger stem made in order to handle the larger hammer. John Hagan contacted me and he was willing to take on the project of making a new valve. I have been in contact with, John Hagan, Ernest Rowe and Eduard Gafarov (EDgun owner) for technical help. ( I don’t have to be smart, I just have to know the right people to contact) I had the new valve made and I couldn’t get the speed required until I fell off the regulator. My regulator was originally set from the factory at 161 bar. That was lowered to 150 bar. At the 150 bar setting I was getting an inconsistent shot string and I was having to over tension the HST.

I lowered the bar to 130 and I got a very consistent string with moderate HST tension but I could only obtain 840 FPS for 24 shots but I has an ES of 5FPS. This told me that the valve could be consistent. I contacted Ed and he suggested that I trim the top of the valve body.

This is the original 2mm valve stem (14.432 grams)

This is the new 3mm valve (15.95 grams)

I cut the valve body

With some grinding and sanding I was able to get the new valve close to the OEM weight

I got 20 shots with an ES of 9 fps

The next step is to test durability…

Eduard is going to fix your gun. He has made arrangements and I’ll let him announce how he is going to handle it. I know he has already made contact with someone and I’m sure he will announce how to fix your gun soon. Thanks Ed

Now that’s it’s fixed we know how but Ed is now suppose to “send valves” and pay for them to be drilled since it’s his
Fuck up
tick tock Ed my friend time is money u are running out of time why are u so slow to move
U hope this will go away that it will just go away
Hahahah
Fuck no Ed
Not a chance

That is great to hear that it is working well. Is the plan to have John make a batch of these if yours works out okay?

So far…
Round count – 750
Shot count per fill 30
Bar setting 135
Avg speed 881
ES 5 FPS

I believe the distributor should be a passionate guy with broad knowledge on the guns he sells.

Shooter ,,,, that is really golden speech,,,, i totally agree with you …. :8: :8: :8: :8: :8: :8: :8:

Once I had a girlfriend that one day showed up dressed and looking like M@rilyn Monroe….

I said “Wow today you are like Marilyn”…..

She replied “I will never be like Marilyn, it’s not a matter of good will, it’s a matter of genetics”…..

Now will Edgun ever be like a normal company with respect and courtesy towards customers, with quality control and customer service?

Well I don’t know, maybe it’s a matter of genetics, what I know is that buying an Edgun has always been like living an Indi@na Jones movie.

Concerning the distributors, they are chosen by the manufacturer according to his standards….. (I’m not saying they are good or bad but they are sharing the same goals…)

And finally, Keyser did a great job and service to the community (IMHO) :thumb: , personally I’m grateful for that even though I don’t own a .30 caliber but certainly he helped out a lot of bros…..

I agree that this is an ideal model. Ed is unable to handle all requests from all over the world. The first line of contact should be a distributor. I believe the distributor should be a passionate guy with broad knowledge on the guns he sells.

Pippo, I had the valve made and it wasn’t working. I tried everything to get the new valve to work. I emailed Ed and he replied with a simple fix. I followed his direction and the gun functioned perfectly. So what should I say? Fuck off?

I worked for a company that imported fine English, Spanish and Italian double guns from companies like Arrieta, Piotti and H&H. My job was to handle customer complaints, take orders and make customers feel like they weren’t being overcharged. When a gun broke the importer (us) fixed it. We ran point for all fixes. We NEVER EVER made the customer deal with the Europeans, especially the Basque. My boss would fix the guns and then he would seek reimbursement for repair cost from the manufactures. This is the point of an importer. So Tony Rudenko is not the scape goat, he is the responsible party. That’s how I see it.

..I was missing your EDgun hate. … I went out of my way to get this fixed not for Ed or Tony but for my bros who had their .30 broken. I reviewed the gun and felt a little responsible to find a fix for it.

Well this was a fair behaviour IMHO, Thumbs Up! :thumb:

(Not that normally I think you are not fair…)

And once again, I’m not an Edgun hater, I’m just an observer and it’s just funny you feel to thank Ed for his help to fix his faulty guns.

Ed is certainly more than happy and grateful for this inexpensive fix, I mean inexpensive for him 😀

Next time probably he will deliver the guns without valve and stem altogether, somebody will fix them….

Probably his ultimate business model is just to receive the payments without delivering those reliable and smooth shooting superb guns ….

I really hope there is a a permanent fix to this guys !!!

Pippo why did it take you so long…I was missing your EDgun hate. I even gave you props. Just for the record, I haven’t changed my tune, I probably won’t ever buy another EDgun. This whole process has left me feeling a little down on the brand. I went out of my way to get this fixed not for Ed or Tony but for my bros who had their .30 broken. I reviewed the gun and felt a little responsible to find a fix for it.

quote Veerkracht:

The hardened metal rod goes deeper in to the valve body and is secured with a special glue.

This is also a good idea, possibly the best one. No notch near the metal part end. Notches are the places where maximum stress is accumulated.

Let’s make .30 valve stem project a community one.

Keyser Soze, John Hagan, Ernest Rowe and Eduard Gafarov (EDgun owner)……

sorry guys, no disrespect but sounds like the casting of a Colossal only Ennio Morricone for soundtracks and Sergio Leone as Director are missing 😀 😀 😀

Special Thanks to the Special Guest Mr Eduard Gafarov (Owner of the Fantastic Edgun Company) for helping to fix his own guns…..

For this magnanimous attitude and interpretation he will receive the Oscar nomination together with Mr Tony Rudenko in the role of Judas (he normally plays the role of the goat scape….)

Sorry Guys, just kidding

(Ed is very lucky to have people like you onhere on TAG)

PS Sorry Mr Tony Rudenko, I don’t know you personally but I see your position very weak, you actually received a nomination but it’s more like a Big Br@ther nomination…. Good Luck!

I made 2 types of replacement valves.
The springless black valve and an improved spring type.
For power the springless valve will do its thing (up to 100 joule+),
for the .22 and .25 the white one is good.
The hardened metal rod goes deeper in to the valve body and is secured with a special glue.
Its weight is about the same as the Original ed valve.
I have shot my last 2 matches with it and it has proved to be a price winner.
Compaired to the Original:

I have tested the black one, this one is made by Leo Bokkum.
this is for 150 bar or more.
It needs enouch pressure to close, otherwise the hammer will hit the bronse nut.

There are some test still running, but no valve has failt on me yet.

I also tested Ti rods, but (as Ed predicted) the friction is higher than the hardened steel version.
After a while there is some bronze wearedown on the rod, causing inconsistancy.

Regards, Robert.

Here is another example:

This is a broken valve stem from .25. Once the metal part got pressed deep enough into a delrin part by a hammer – a piece of a delrin part popped out.

Here in Poland we think that simple redesign of a delrin part can make the valve stem lasting forever. Ideally is to do some computer simulations, finite elements method based, in e.g. SolidWorks to collect the stress within the material. The addition of more meat can do the trick as Wingman pointed out. Possibly there is no need to use brass even in .30. Properly designed delrin valve stem should survive even in .30. Thanks to that .30 will be more efficient because of a lighter valve stem. Less inertia, less force needed to close the valve.

Guys, here we deal with mechanics and physics. There is no room for guessing. Everything can and should be computed and simulated before going to CNC.
