Q:

Effect on cutting down a condor barrel on power??

I am curious to find what cutting down a 24 inch barrel down 13-14 inches..or if any of you have dropped a shorter 12″ LW into a Condor, a carbine condor in .22 interests me… for quiet clandestine higher fpe pest needs over my TSS .177 tossing heavies. I am aware that the 24″ tube and hotter valve/hammer make the condor THE higher power player and etc ..but would appreciate any input from those who dropped in a shorter barrel. Appreciated. John

Co2Sniper,

I love my “Ccndor SS” with it’s 12″ barrel. I guess I just like how quick handling it is. A good rule of thumb for barrel sizes vs. FPS in .22 Condors is;

For every 1″ shorter than a standard 24″ barrel a Condor looses 22FPS.

So your 1120 FPS Condor with a 24″ barrel will shoot 860 FPS with a 12″ barrel. If you are planning to shoot Co2 from your 12″ Condor plan for velocities around that of a $60.00 Co2 gun. I wouldn’t mess with cutting and machinining a 24″ barrel when you buy a 12″ factory LW barrel for a little over $100.00. Good luck!

if you are just looking for more ‘thump’ and short overall length is a primary concern, the 12″ .22 w/ a Condor tank and hammer weight will definitely shoot stronger than the TSS, albeit not the most effecient way of getting the job done.

If a little more length would be acceptable (4-5 inches past the end of the frame) I’d say a barrel of 15-16″ with about a 4-5″ shroud/frame extension would be about ideal for you. would get more power than the 12″ condor, and do so more effeciently (more shots per fill and less noise).

IIRC, Wok has a 16″ bbl in his setup but I don’t know which tank valve he is using. maybe he will chime in here.

Good power upgrade with minimum added length would be the reslult.

There are a couple of people here that have installed a 12″ barrel in their Condor. The power certainly drops but it will still shoot stronger than an SS. To get it to be quiet get one of the shrouds that Don (Shrpshtr is his nickname or something close) makes for the 12″ barrel AF guns. I would not cut the barrel because then you ‘d have to choke it and re-crown it, unless you ‘re pretty good with that.
12″ .22 barrels always go on sale at least once a month on the Classifieds section of this forum, or just go there and post that you are looking for one. I ‘m sure someone has 1 laying around from an upgrade.
