Q:

End Cap Removal Possible?

Based on this diagram, the end cap on the Cricket moderator (part #75) can or cannot be removed? I’m trying to figure of if an adapter can be made to add a screwed on LDC. I’ve read that it’s epoxy in place? Anyone successfully removed it and can share the process? If so, what’s the thread pattern/measurements?

I don’t know but it was hot. My epoxy caught on fire. My friend did it after my first try because I didn’t have the balls to heat mine that hot.

Sozer and Donny, I tried this and didn’t have any success in removing the end cap. It didn’t budge even after heating it to over 400*. How long did you heat it until the epoxy started to breakdown? I heated the end cap itself and when that didn’t work, heated 1″ part of the shroud.

Fudd you could remove the end cap and send it to Dman. Then there won’t be any question that it will fit.

I’ve commissioned dman to make me one for the Cricket and Mutant. He just doesn’t have the measurements that I posted above. I want one that’s slightly different than the one Sozer has.

Fudd, just contact Donny and get one from him. That’s what he does, and does quite well I might add. Good LDC to get too. I just took off the Cricket shroud and put one of his on though… much easier and far superior IMHO… Either way, he can fix you up whether you want just that adapter or the whole bundle…

Does anyone happen to know the ID (inner dimension/diameter) of the Cricket shroud so I can have an adapter made? I haven’t had the chance to try to take it off yet using the blowtorch technique.

Thanks for the tips guys.

I used a mini torch and placed it directly in front of the cap. Do not heat it from the side of the shroud, it will discolor it. Keep the torch there until you see the epoxy bubbling out and use whatever you can find that can go into the front hole and yank it out. I customized a metal pick to pull it out. Very easy just need a little patience while the epoxy heats up. Afterwards I took a xacto knife and cleaned the inside up a bit before putting in the adapter.

Fudd I think it was 50 bucks. John Hagan or Dman1114 can make one for you. The baffles are all metal but do not heat past 2 inches on the shroud. All the baffles are glued in place and it would be a real bitch if you melted one loose. The end cap is placed with 2 part epoxy, I tried a heat gun first but it was not enough heat. Keep heating until the glue begins to smoke. The end cap will pop right off.

Thanks Soze! Is it safe to assume the OEM end cap is made of metal as are the baffles? I don’t want to heat stuff up only to find out there’s melted plastic parts in there. Also, who made you this and how much was it?
