Q:

Enlarged chamber instead of sizing all slugs?

One more question today.

I have the TJ barrel in .257. When I try to load my cast slugs from 257420 they wont load, I can just barely get them to start. They do shoot great but I would prefer to not have to push so hard to only barely seat them.

I know sizing the slugs would take care of my problem, but I wonder about enlarging the throat. I have read how some barrels have had the throat enlarged to help seat the surefire slugs. I can see how a one time fix on the barrel would save me sizing EVERY SINGLE slug.

Sorry if I don’t know all the vocabulary, I hope everyone can understand what I mean. (lead in? Throat? Chamber?)

I tried to get a fellow member here to understand that a couple of weeks ago, but for what ever reason, he just couldn’t understand it. He did everything exactly backwards.

He is an ex-machinist, and is all about precision. Which is very good, but he couldn’t wrap his head around using a final lapping in the lead to get the dimensions, and sooth the transition into the riffling at all.

The best way to cut into your barrel a chamber for your slugs is to put your barrel on a lathe . Chambering the barrel is the same important as crowning the muzzle. If you don’t cut the chamber perfectly concentric, then your slug will loose the accuracy . Also i can recommend you to pass the slugs through a proper sizer and the chamber to cut following the measurement of a sized slug.

How do you guys go about polishing the leade in? I can see myself with a polishing stone on a dremel, making a mess of it in no time!

Yep, RJ is correct. You will have to cut and polish a leade into it. (Lead is what you shoot thru it!) LOL :8:

Sizing probly won’t help either. The lead needs to be polished out to get the bullet to fit. Also if you don’t size your bullets your accuracy will suffer. If you think you get good groups now size the bullets to your bore and polish the lead in and see what happens. You will be killing flies at 100yds+
