Q:

errant chrony numbers

I was shooting today and found that if I shot across the chrony at even a
slight diagonal it would make a huge difference in the results…I tried it
with 2 different chronies at 2 different distances and in every instance the
numbers differed a lot…Shooting towards the left side was reading 1,017
and towards the right side it was reading 1,088…Just thought you might
like to know….

the sensors are only about 1″ wide

I put my chrony at the target in the garage, about 7 yards, right in front of the target.
I do have a 4″ bronze channel in front of it for protection.
All my shit is packed, but I wonder, say the sensors are 12″ apart.
What effect of the pellet heading straight in and opposed to say 5 deg.
obviously the straight in pellet would clock faster than the one at an angle.
But, how much ?
I could believe it might be more than one thinks.
So on that note, maybe one of our rocket scientist could do a bit of # crunching 😯 😯 😯 😯 😯
I would say the sensors are 12″ apart, the skyscreens lets say 10″ width, meaning the usable width of the chrony.
Straight in would be a coefficient of 0 at an angle it would be ?
The margin of error would be -%. ?

I tried it at 2′ and 6″…..Same result with both chronies…Seems it may be
more accurate if the chrony is further instead of closer…….Either way, so
much for shooting at different bulls while trying to run a string….

Pathagerey ant theorem. A squared + B squared = C squared.
I could imagine a bit of difference between straight in and at an angle.
If you have the chony up close, I would imagine the margin of error would be minimal, unless the sensors are somewhat inaccurate off to the side.

Yep, after I tried a few things it started to click….I didn’t realize how
sensitive it was though….The chrony was 2 ft from the barrel and I was
shooting at a target 65yds out. The target was about 12″ wide and the
difference between shooting at the left side and shooting at the right side
was eye opening to say the least….
