Q:

Extra silencer to mount on shroud? (R3 .22)

Hi guys

I’m sure I saw some pics of additional moderators/silencers, attached to the shroud…is it a custom gunsmith work or there is a way to mount one without having to use a cnc miller? (perhaps just some adapter to screw on?)
for me no gun is silent enough and i would be prepared to make it slightly longer for the sake of extra quieteness.

any advice appreciated

thanks!

Hi Hoot,
Sounds like you have done one mods or two in the neverending pursuit of total quietness!
Speaking of which, i have got a cupboard full of 1″ washers, scour pads and hair curlers (the latter, not for personal use!!).
I’m of the same opinion, no gun is ever too quiet!
It is reassuring to hear that out of the box the matador is pretty silent, bu as you said, depending on background noises (or lack of), even a mouse fart might get unwanted attention.
I appreciate the hamer noise will be always there (unless major mods are done), but “every little helps” as Tesco advert says, personally i would spend money even on 1-2db gain.
Anyway, i’m not keen on modifying the gun too much, and i like mods to be totally reversible, so definitely no welding involved!
As far as importing another shroud and add on moderator, laws have been getting tighter recently, silencers can’t be shipped to customers even by uk shops, and you need to collect in person at the rfd.
This, let alone HRM customs inspections and stuff!
Perhaps i might just wait for Ed to release the multiahot magazine add on, and perhaps embark on the hassle for a multi item puchase!
Right now i see how i get on with it (collecting the gun tomorrow and can’t wait!!)

Cheers
Nico

One could ask Ed, or your nearest Edgun rep, if he has any spare, threaded R2.5 endcaps available as replacement parts, and whether those endcaps would have the same thread as the current shrouds.

When you make guns, people break, lose, or screw up parts. I would suspect Ed might have some spares laying around here and there.

If one is available, and the threads are identical (and why would he change them) then request an Edgun moderator and replacement endcap.

You, being back in the Motherland, can do things we can’t here in the colonies. Worth a try at any rate.

Besides, If lined up properly, the Edgun moderator could be aluminum welded, or chemically “JB Welded”, onto the existing endcap, after carefully removing the threaded probe from the moderator, and prepping both the surfaces. The JB method could be used with any moderator you might find locally available, and satisfactory in its performance.

With no recoil, little if any vibration, it doesn’t take much to permanently add such a feature…and you wouldn’t need a very big one due to the existing effective Edgun shroud performance.

Living next to Satan’s Crazy Bitch 1st Cousin, as I do here in the mountains, I require extreme quiet, and the cover of brush, or darkness, to carry out my evil deeds. I have “enhanced” more than one modifier with lasting and satisfactory results.

If you go the chemical route, JB Weld, be sure to drill two to four small holes in each piece where they butt together, so the mixture can push through and establish a mechanical hold on both parts. Further, rough up the surface of both parts so the epoxy can grab some molecules to hold on to.

This works just fine. I’ve done it before.

Kindest regards,

Thanks for the replies.
Ok, i will stick with what i have got.
Hope it is as quiet as the weirauch silencer i use on my other rifle…;)

Yoda, welcome aboard!

The add on moderator was offered for the earlier R2.5 Matadors. I think that add on moderator is what you are referring to.

The early R2.5 moderator’s end cap was threaded for the extra moderator. Ed changed the moderator’s end cap on the later R2.5s and the R3s and there is just no way that the end cap on the newer R2.5 and R3 moderator can be threaded to accept the older R2.5 extra moderator. There is just not enough aluminum on the end cap to cut threads to mount the extra moderator.

If you need the R3 to be quieter than it is now, you will have to find somebody that will make you a whole new moderator.

The only 2 sounds that I hear are the hammer on the gun and the pellet hitting the target. I don’t think there’s much room for improvement in the shroud department. I did took the shroud off and shoot it to hear the difference. Almost like a PB…
I have R3 .22 long BTW.

Results may vary !
