farm pest control
Was out by my local dairy farmyard today. Temperature was 6 degree when I came a -6 when I left.
Took a bunch of sparrows in pole shed with .177 RS. The rest were taken Cricket style
Longest shot was 70 yards on starling

ItΒ΄s due the Public Demand. Once you get to be as old, senile, cranky, but notoriously virile, you may get yours. :ugeekn:
I eventually went for a 760 and then switched to the break barrel pellet rifles. I ended up with an RWS 52 and a Sheridan which I still have. Some cool guns were discontinued like my Daisy or Crosman co2 semi-auto pistol (can’t remember). Oh well on to better things.
I used to do too but it was 760 Crossman pump and BBS. We had to pump like crazy doing a quick follow up or when you missed and sparrow wondered what’s going on. Wow times have changed. Imagine what we use now and at what distance we can effectively dispatch them. But that is many many $$ later.
I shot sparrows for many years with a Red Ryder and a flashlight around the outside and in the barns, coups, etc. I had to worry about ricochets. Sometimes we used 22 shot shells but the roofs were all the old thick corrugated tin. My next gun is going to be a Compact Cricket in .177 for the sparrows. The 30 cal literally blows them up.
Lol I would get my butt kicked if I shot a 30cal inside pole shed. Its got paper-thin tin and not much backing. Its tough to line one up with a piece of timber behind it. They seem to know to keep away from those areas. They mostly sit where they have tin right behind them. But the 17 is much more fun to shoot than big bore for that job. Have to take alot of head shots as most of the time head is the only thing with a board behind it.
Right now I am using the 30 cal. π π π

Had to move inside pole shed where sparrows were craping the machines full. I use the RS 177.

Ah… de-pesting in good form, well done! Glad there was a squirrel in the mix, a fox nutter, by the looks of it. They are tough to kill, as squirrels go.
At those temperatures, anything is harder to kill, except a stack of firewood.
It looks like about ten more birds and you’ve got enough for a pie!!!
Nice looking squirrel. If they are that fat, it’s almost worth the trouble skinning them for the meat!
