Fill guage question?
My fill gauge will not go beyond 2800 psi even on a full scuba tank? I first noticed this at a scuba shop. We tried about four different tanks and the store owner said i had a bad gauge? Just purchased on Black friday 2 scuba tanks so i can cascade fill my high flo tank. Different dive shop and my scuba tanks are filled to 3200 psi. Yes this is an Airforce refill clamp and at home the gauge still won’t read past 2800 psi and when i closed the scuba tank valve the gauge dropped to 2600 psi.
Shooting the condor after about 5 or so shoots seems to shoot harder and much louder. Been using Co2 and am very happy but seems to awakened the beast in this rifle with high pressure air. I am sam i am new to this group and wish to say Hello to all.

My guns sweet spot seems to be around 2500 psi. I tried using lite pellets 14.?? gr pellets with mixed results. filling to 2200 psi and a power setting of 1
resulted in good and terrible groups. one filling to 2700 psi produced valve lock for about 15 shots and terrible groups afterward. Moved up to 21.?? gr Kodiaks and power wheel setting of 5. 2400 psi fill. Satisfaction at last, .5 groups at 30 meters and lots of shots . Tried some Eun Jin 28.??gr before settling with Kodiaks . Really liked the EunJins just as good groups, power wheel setting 6. 2400 psi fill lots of shots……but they are hard to load and started to ware on my finger.
Kodiaks will be my goto pellet of choice and the Eun Jin will be my varmint pellet of choice.

The dive instructor that filled my tanks used a filling station out side the shop which i thought was unique. His filling station is a single axle, 2tire, box trailer with about 10 hpa steel tanks connected togather with valves and gauges. Don’t remember seeing an aircompressor (maybe one) in the trailer?
He hooked my tank to his fill rig and proceeded to fill my tank and had to switch fill tanks to finnish filling my tanks. While my tank was filling painfully slow, He explained to me the reason was to prevent over heating and to provide me with a real 3200 psi fill.
From reading the Blogs i learned to fill my condor tank painfully slow to prevent cooking the orings in the fill adapter and tank.

When the AirForce gauge was removed, the problem was very explicit. A thin film of clear gasket sealer was on the end of the fitting. This clear sealer was also going into the gauge. The hole in the gauge was somewhat tear shaped and noways as big as the clean hole in the replacement gauge.
Next time to the dive shop I plan to have a tank filled to 3,000 psi and checked by a dive shop gauge and then compare my new fill gauge.

Sometimes if they fill the tank too fast it will have a false (high) reading from getting warm, then after it cools it won’t be the full 3K. Ask them if you can fill your gun tank and have them top you back off.
This seems to be a problem with AF gauges, Mine would also top out at 2500 psi
And now the rest of the Story? I decided to buy a gauge from the local supply Store and guessed the threads were 1/4 NPT. Well they are actually 1/8 NPT. So I returned the first one and reordered the correct one. The first gauge was 0 to 5000 psi scale only, the second one is all stainless and dual scale psi/bar.

Most likely a guage that is innacurate. I have a bad on my cheap yoke. The first time I filled the tank w/the hi-flow valve, it stopped at 2800psi. The Scuba shop said they filled the tank with 3200-3300psi. Fired a few shots through the chrony and they were really low, like 500-600fps, but then all of a sudden after 10 shots or so bam, 800, 900, 1000, 1,100fps.. (w/Kodiaks) and so on. The false reading/high pressure in the tank had caused temporary valve lock.
So now I just fill to around 2200-2300psi and get good consistency. One of these days I ‘ll replace the gauge or get a new yoke & hose all together to get ready for a new 4500psi tank.
I would use very little T. tape. Make absolutely sure it can’t get inside the gauge.
Thanks for the help. I will fill to 2000 psi for the weekend and call airforce for an exchange/repair on monday ……..also I will check welding shops in town for a new gauge. Will check shipping rates and will do what is most economical for me? Should i replace the gauge do i need to use teflon tape on the gauge threads, see pictures with and without teflon tape?
AF should replace the gauge, but if you don’t want to wait or deal with them, a local welding supply place would be able to set you up with a new gauge pretty reasonable.
Be very careful! Your most likely filling your gun tank to 3200 which is giving you what appears to be a rather mild case of valve lock. 1. Get a new gauge fast, either send that one back to A.F. or just replace the gauge on the clamp yourself (faster and will cost you the same by the time you pay s&h) In the meantime, try only filling to 2000-2500. I called and explained my delema about not being able to use lite pellets and was dissapointed. All it took was a call and they said no problem. I recieved a full tin of Kodiaks and they paid shipping…..you might say i jumped the gun befor seeking an adjustment. Satisfaction and made a regular customer out of me.
