Q:

Finally have a chance to focus on TSS

WHen I got my TSS, I was right in the middle of converting a Crosman 2250B to HPA, so other than shooting maybe 200-300 rounds just becoming familiar with trigger, power wheel, and a little accuracy testing, the Talon has remained untouched..I’m now able to focus entirely on getting the “kinks” worked out of TSS,,here’s a good long shot string I ran this morning, using Shooting Chrony Alpha model….PW set @ 6.0, start pressure @ 2900, 14.5gr. RWS Superdome pellets, TH set at factory .105″. From shot #28 on down it really started to fade off, so I finally just quit..I would sure appreciate guidance on what to do to tighten up the FPS….that deviation figure looks way too high ,I think. TH adjustment ( I know there are LOTS of opinions on this issue) and what my next step should be..Now, FWIW, I’ve shot some 25 yard nickle sized groups at this setting and with this pellet,,,if that helps any…Thanks , I appreciate it and I ‘m ready to get this AWESOME gun dialed in..

It’s all good…everyone’s advice is appreciated..when I got to “4” I could see power was coming up good, so I went with smaller increase(s)..just got lucky, to some degree, which is always better than knowing what you’re doing!! Bottom line here is..I asked, you guys answered, I applied, and results were as hoped for!! Which means this site
ROCKS

Sorry packrat I posted then left you out to fin for yourself but you know you did really well got you on the right track with Daves advice and what you did was the correct way to find out what you was going on the main thing was top hat setting just wasting air don’t do you any good you have to get that air down to a managable puff!!! and then start doing what you did your a happy camper then good like Dave said go out and shoot that bloody sucker!!! have a ball they are fun guns for sure!!

YEP..it appears that with 12″ barrel, ya just don’t need that much air..I went from the 105 down to .080 like Dave said to do,,then followed his othe suggestions and WHAMO ! SUMBEECH be doing like what it “should” have been doing from the factory..Can’t thank you enough Dave, and you others as well..I certainly appreciate it!!!

Aint that amazing??!!
Guys asks some advice on how to do something. Someone who knows the right way answers and advises. Guy takes advise and has good results.

Simples.. 😉 😆

Sounds like you are in the zone packrat 😎 😀

Seems like youve done us and yourself proud 😀

So your excessive top hat distance and only a 12″ barrel was meaning that you were using a lot more air than you needed to

You have found the nice balance within your gun.

Go and shoot the sht out of it 😀

Dave

Alrighty then…I went ahead and started without you 😆 😆 😆 I’ve shot close to 300 pellets ..I lowered TH to 0.080, set pw at ZERO and shot 3 pellets..KNEW that wasn’t it 🙄 the set pw to 2, fired just a few rounds, KNEW that wasn’t it 🙄 , so put PW on 3-started getting 620-640 fps on chrony…so went to 4 on PW and was getting 705-725 fps…..went to 4.8 (4 1/2) on PW…getting real hi 700-low 800’s…re-filled to 2900. took 40 shots..first shot was 799.37 slowly climbed to a high fps of 827.57 then back down to shot #40, which was 793.35….I went outside, on my back porch..it’s 47 yards (I’ve measured it 😎 ) from there to my fixed target boards…I put 8 out of 9 shots in the circle which is the size of a US quarter!!!!! All this with 14.3 JSB Exact Jumbo Express pellets. I am so friggin’ HAPPY with this gun right now, they oughta put me on TV to do an Air Force airgun commercial…no F88!%g lie..

Now in the” who gives a rat’s ass ” department, altogether I shot so much I had just a little over FIVE FEET of paper out of my chrony ❗ ❗ ❗ Sorry this is so loooong, but …I spelled out everything I did , step by step, and the KICK-ASS results I got. Thanks for all the help, I think I’ll leave it alone…seems to be doing damn good to me. 😀 😀

Ok..Once I do that..what’s next??? DO i need to do another long string (how many shots?) at say 0, then 1, then 2, then 3, and etc on the power wheel , until I find the sweet spot ?? Whatever it takes to do it the right way, I’m willing to do..got 1500 more JBS’s due here on Monday 😀 😀 😀 what starting and ending psi should I go with? I really appreciate you guys helping me out..I’ve looked all through the “quick reference” section, but didn’t come up with much that would help with this particular situation..so again, my thanks 😀

What you have doesn’t look to bad but I would do what Dave suggested especially the top hat adjustment then turn you power wheel down to 0 and go up from there

With my talon valve that had the ports slightly elongated, I only needed a tophat setting of .070″ and could easily get the 15.9 jsb’s into the 950’s with an 18″ barrel.

I would reduce yout tophat to about .080 or 0.70 because you will be only wasting air if your using a 12″ barrel.

Your valve seems to be opening easily from the first shot, so you could also try reducing the hammer spring pre-load (Power Wheel) so that you start off slightly low, climb to max fps and then drop back down to the same speed as shot number 1. This might also increase air efficiency, resulting in more useable shots.
