Q:

Finally…..Texan! 241gr HAP slugs?

Just got the email, my Texan has shipped! Ordered back on Feb. 3rd. Has anyone with the Texan tried the “Hunter Arc Penetrator” slugs yet? RL Airguns and (I think) the wok guard guys are selling them. I ordered some in 241 gr. Would like any FIRST HAND experience feed back on these. There are also some in 300+gr. Am curious about that design and power wheel (or whatever their calling it) setting experience in the 241gr range.I opted to try the 241gr hoping for flatter trajectory at longer ranges. Most yotes I call in either come in quick all the way in to 30 or so yards or stay out of range. I’m wanting to pick up those that won’t commit out to at least 100+ yards. Mr.Hollowpoints have been very accurate in my tuned .358 recluse but I’m not a big fan of hollow points for airguns and am still looking for a favorite in .358. At the velocity the Recluse is shooting, JSB pellets are no longer accurite enough for me at distance….any way back to the Texans… who is shooting what at what distances with accuracy?

Texan

In my chrono testing the 166 grain slugs from Hunters supply gives the best FPDS about 30 more foot pounds then my springfield 1911 45 auto. The round 143 balls are less and the 250 grain is in the mid 200-250 range. The 405 grain is same, cause it shoots slower. The Sabots wasn’t chrono’d but shot hard and shot a good group. My ammo for this rifle will be the 166 flat nose bullet. Amazing how it cracks, yep I’ll have to see Randy for a suppressor if I shoot it in th yard, but for now my sporting club has a good range to enjoy.. have fun folks the Tean is a keeper. 😀

Now I don’t own a Texan nor am I pro on it but from people who shoot my bullets they say the light weight stuff don’t group to good. This is just from their testing not mine.

Just an update for anyone interested. I got the 166 gr semi wad cutters from air venturi to do 3 shots in the low 970’s close together before starting to drop off. That’s around 350 ft/lbs from 166 gr! Can get more shots before dropping to 2000 psi but I was adjusting for a minimum spread. I was impressed. I was able to do 2 1/4″ groups of three (one fill) at 100 yds (benched) so I expect good things from better ammo. 240 gr Hunter Arc Penetrators were unacceptable for accuracy and terrible to load. Currently purchasing ammo in various lighter weights. I’ll let the guys taking bigger game report on the heavier stuff, I only shoot coyotes with my big bores so I don’t want heavy bullets. Lastly, in the mother of all smooth moves…..I shot my crony Sunday….one shot….one kill! Please, someone else tell me they’ve done that!

Going to order some other ammo for sure. Just had enough time to sight in the scope today. I thought I had ordered more variety but only had two different bullets. The big winner today at 50 yds was the 166gr semi wad cutters from air venture. I was surprised cause I’ve found the air venture ammo to be crap in my recluse. I was disappointed with the 240 gr hunter arc penetrator slugs but to be fair, I did not have time to set up the crony and mess with the power adjuster. I just shot it as it came from the factory. I will get back to a more thorough session this weekend. It was very windy and gusty too but the semi wad cutters did one inch groups at 50 yds no hold for the wind cause it was ranging from strong to ridiculous at times. Love the gun. Makes my condor look like a baby but handles well. Would still like to see more feed back on what others are getting out of the Texan. Talk about bullets, yardage and the power adjuster. I’ll get back on after theweekend. Meanwhile time for a visit to RJs website!

Thanks RJ, I just got notice my gun is local now on Fed Ex truck for delivery today. Can’t wait to get home! I’ll do some shooting this weekend. I have some unsized cheapies of different weights to shoot then I’ll decide which to order off your web site

250 do ok but not the best. I have 2 guys that shoot the HP and 320grn and at 100yds the hp’s are doing ⅝ inch 3 shot groups and the 320fp are doing just under an inch. Some others are getting the same results at 100.

RJ, have you put the 250 gr. R.E.A.L.s through a Texan? or the 320 gr. FPs? If so how’d they do at what distance. Thanks

I cast alot of .457 bullets from 220-480grains. If anyone has a texan and wants to buy a bunch of bullets email me at joeeigo@gmail.com and I accept paypal. I hope that the 480grain work in them.

I don’t own a texan yet and hope they arrive in Canada soon. I shoot .457 294 grain bullets through my samyang light hunter. It works really well but I want more power and bigger bullets. Bigbores are so much fun!

Thanks, I will get it out next weekend when I have it and see how the ammo I have is and what I might try, I’m thinking the 200-300gr range. I keep wanting to get into casting but I work all week and run my dogs and call coyotes on weekends so for now I’ll leave it to others. What gun are you using the .457s in? Have you tried them in a Texan already?

I cast .457 220, 294 and 480 grain bullets. I would love to see how it would work with the texan but it hasn’t arrived in Canada yet. If you would like to buy a bunch of ammo email me at joeeigo@gmail.com

Excuse me…..it was not wok guard guys but rather maddog stock guys that also have those slugs.
