Q:

Finding That SWEET Spot

Beginner here,
In an attempt to understand all the particulars with optimizing performance from my Condor. I have a few basic, (you already know) questions.
Seeing how there are several important variables to consider. I’m trying to save myself from a lot of trial and error.
A simple Yes or No reply to each will do. I don’t want anyone feeling the need for a long reply.
Tony, tuned this for me. New Hammer, Spring, Top Hat polish and Valve work, old style valve.
It’s a .25 cal. I have NOT adjusted the Top Hat since Tony, worked his magic
Thanks

A) How sensitive is the Power Wheel adjustment in most cases? I see that there is both a large, 1-12 scale and a tenths scale as well. Will moving the dial just a few tenths have a large impact on FPS out come?

B) Is there a general PSI range, say 2400-2900 psi. That proves to be optimum?

C) Or is each gun unique in this respect?

D) Can I dial in my rifle for best performance, (FPS) using ANY Pellet, then use my preferred Pellets? I don’t want to burn up what I want use just to dial it in. I do understand that using a heavier Pellet will reduce my fps. I’m looking for consistency.

E) At max FPS setting. What is the max number of shots I can expect, roughly, using 43G. Pellets? 10 – 15?

F) Using an Air Force hand pump. Is the Bar Gauge reliable?
I pump it to 200 bar but my current fps levels are in the mud. 43G, are coming out at around 680 fps max after 25 shots. Most are in the 550 fps range.

I can see how someone could spend a good part of the day just setting it up for max performance. I’m willing to do the same. I just don’t want to be spinning my wheels and not know it.
Again, Thanks for any help.

Thank You, both.

I’ll have to take a BAR reading off the pump and then have the tank filled else where to determine what the actual BAR level is.

I agree with Adam and will add that while the gauge might not be accurate, they do tend to be repeatable. So once you find a point on the gauge your gun likes to be filled to, fill to that point and you’ll be fine.

A- Shoot your gun over a chrony staring with your PW on setting of 4, move the PW up and shoot again. Stop the PW at the setting where you no longer see anymore velocity increase.

B- Optimum performance is not solely due to PSI. I fill my gun to 2850 and shoot until POI drops lower then I like. I dont drive myself crazy shooting over a chronograph. POI is my criteria for field work.

C- Yes

D- NO, Pick your best pellet and dial it in. Buy a shit load of them. Shoot anything else you want to plink with and dont worry about it.

E- Only your chrono will tell

F- NO it is not reliable. Buy a better gauge if you are concerned.

I do have a Crony, and NO I don’t want to mess with it but I do need to understand just how the Power Wheel, PSI level and Pellet Weight will effect performance.
Just looking to understand the basics.

Old valve? Condor valve?

It sounds like you need to get a chronograph.

I have .25 from Tony with a Modified Talon valve. I can shoot at least 30 shots with 31 gr. Kodiaks, likely more but I don’t have a chronograph to see. You sure you want to mess with the way Tony set your rifle up?
