Finer threads on TH stem
Hey Guys,
Has anyone notice the cant on top hat after tightening the set screws. I found that the bottom of the top hat is not parallel to the face of the valve, which would not allow for a uniform measurement for the top hat setting. Has any one tried retreading the valve stem to a finer tread? No big, just food for thought.

We’re talking a variance of .004 . An example would be the side of the top hat where the set screws are located would be .086, opposite side, .090. The top hat is sitting catty woppus. Have you seen anything like this on your valve / th assembly? I don’t know if its worth concern or not. I have also experienced 2 miss fires, hammer comes back, no pop. Fires good the next shot. Any ideas what can be causing this?
The finer treads on the valve stem would make the top hat adjustment that much more precise. Anyone tried it yet?

Sorry this isn’t on topic. Rowdy I just spent a long time watching your avatar repeatedly, and it is amazing. But I don’t remember anybody taping me that time I was mugged? 😛
I have been working way to much lately so I have not been around here much of late, but let me ask you; just how much unsquare you talking about here??? Then me not knowing what you have at all, you using the OEM breech slide that your top hat comes in contact with when you close up for a shot? If its the plastic breech its going to be more forgiving than an aluminum breech slide would be on the top hat and stem…
I would be worried if its much out of square as the firing over and over might tend to squre this all up to the face of the breech where the top hat and breech make up. What will get the most adjustment will be the thinner valve stem and you sure wouldn’t want the stem bending under the firing process, or at least I wouldn’t… Just my nickle’s worth

I would not worry so much about .004″ and for sure if your running the OEM breech slide… I have one of my valves that is somewhat the same and I always just use the tight side to setup the measusrement dude. Don’t have to like it though LOL…
I personally think to have one of the guys here fix you up with a new stem that is made to fit with no adjusting threads would be the best thing. I am not so much on the threads on the top hat and stem… Just something else to have trouble with JIMO… LOL
Yes the avatar is really something, seem to fit me to the “T” also… I just love the whole thing right up to the last round to make sure the last dude is down and for good… If more of us did the theif like this, I doubt we would have so much need for lawyers and all these new shiney prisons…

Now, Mike far as the misfire, you have the stem all nice and in proper lubed condition??? Next on these misfires, dude you still have your safety in the rifle??? I would like the safety in these rifles also, but honestly the rifles are so much better off without them…
Then if you will something like a dry lube, like graphite… Load the trigger assembly with a little as well as the sprig and slide, hammer and all that jazz with it and see if that doesn’t have things more to the point…
