First 265 yard groups with the Haley .257 Scadalous
The rain gave me a reprieve today so I decided to try some long range shooting.
I first shot at 150 yards to get a zero. and I had a 11 shot group that I muffed one shot in, it went into 3.5 inches for 10 of those 11 shots on the white gong. I left the chip for my camera in the computer on that trip so you get no picture.
Then I went up to the house and shot from the railing at 265 yards. I shot two shots with the 24 mark on the MOA retilce and went down to check the group, I used no bags, just rested the rifle in my hands and my hands on the rail. It was 12 inches high but the shots were only 2 inches apart.
I went back to the house and sat a Caldwell range bag on the rail, using no bag for the rifle but and tethered to 4200 PSI and shooting the 257420 at 72.5 grains, the wind had changed and was blowing in my face, I held on the 18 MOA dot and fired this group. That group was low and right, so I then fired three more shots using the 21 MOA mark and a 10:00 oclock.
The three shots on the plate are the last group, it measures 3.5 inches, the lower shot was only half on the plate and made the shot just below the plate.
The group low and right is a 5 shot group at 5 inches, it has 4 out of 5 in 3.5 inches.
With the 3 shot group on the plate and the half shot painted.
Not bad for the first 265 yard outing.

RC, you must be tickled to death with those groups for that range. Just checking out the details in this thread and your pics was thrilling to me. It was the Lyman 257420 cast of 25% Lyman #2 and 75 % pure lead. I sort by weight from 72.2 to 72.7 grains and size them to .258 with a Lee sizer and Imperial sizing wax.
It has around 125 FPE at that range.

I just could not help it.
When I went down and saw those first two shots, I knew I and a winner. One of these days all the stars will be aligned, the wind will stop, I will get 5 good shots with five good bullets and I should pull a good group out.
I just assembled the Caldwell Stable Table, I think this should be a vast inprovement for my long range shooting.
Damn heavy tho.

Yeah I am happy with it for the first time out and the amount of work I have done with it so far.
It is doing around 2 inches at 150 yard, but I have to sy the shooting postions I have really suck. I mean really shooting 265 yards and resting on a deck railing that is running all wrong in directiona nd the height is absolutely wrong.
That is until about two hours ago, I bought a Delux Cadwell stable table to shoot from at Cabelas.
The other thing you might notice is that my pictures of groups are on steel. Not cut out in weird strip like shapes from cardboard to hide shots that went where they were not supposed to.
