first attempt at a forearm – added butt plate/shoulder rest
I had a little bit of time this afternoon so I grabbed a chunk of redwood out of the pile and started to play, two hours later this is what I came up with.

I think I’ll try for a shoulder rest typ thing next.

That is great for a first run. Really like the buttstock, have been dreaming up one myself.

It’s a meade etx 90 with auto star. do you know anything about them, I’m looking for some web sights now and not finding anything too new on them.
Like the wood work… I have the tools but know it would just be a waste of money as I’d mess up somewhere along the line. Have a lot of respect for the guys who make their own stocks.

Its raining here so I had to take it all apart to get it through the door, but next time I’v got the setup out front, I’ll take a pic and post it… you’ll laff your ass off.. or, as lease I do 😕
Wow! You can do more with “make shift” tools than I can with floor size workshop tools. I’m even more impressed.
volsr1 – no band saw here, I only wish..don’t have much space for toys after the divorce, so I used the trusty 18v dewalt jigsaw and grandpas old rockwell belt sander that I can’t find a trigger for so I’ve hot wired and clamped it to the table saw, sa for the forearm I did most of it with the table saw and finished the dado off on a o.s.b. router table I rigged up which also gets clamped to the table saw.
sounds like you have some toys to play with, you could really come up with some cool stuff on the excaliber, I’ll look forward to seeing what it might be.
blue jay…did you use a band saw to shape the butt plate? I have a band saw and excaliber scroll saw…you’ve inspired me to try my hand at a butt plate. The forearm might be above my abilities. Did you use a router to inlet it? Nice work man.

Walk on King – (that name reminds me of the old “asshole modulation” days on the cb) a piece of aluminum? thats way beyond my tool collection, some day when I get brave enough to carve I’ll try a grip, then a full stock of some sorts. grip tape, not bad, I was thinking some siliceous or somthing in a cote of poly.
Rabbits – the bulk works well with the way I shoot, mostly sitting indian stile, to rase elevation, just slide hand back, thats probably bad form, but it works for this self taut sob.
volsr1 – I didn’t like the way it fit in my shoulder, not to mention I couldn’t shoulder it fast enough when hunting, so I’v done a bit of reshaping and she’s a bit more roundly with less of a pocket.
Very nice. The butt plate looks fantastic. The sharp edges might be prone to damage though.

That look pretty good.
Now if I had my way with it I would remove the trigger guard and inlet a piece of aluminum at the rear of that forestock and extend it back to make the trigger guard. I also would angle the front of that forestock to match the angle of the rear. And mybe put some grip tape on the bottom for a non slip surface.
It looks great as it is I am just thinking out loud 😀
