Q:

first chrony numbers for my Edgun

I got a chance to do a little shooting this evening. My velocity is a little lower than I expected but not bad at all. The consistancy really was great over a 50 shot string. I started at 180 BAR since that is what was in it when it arrived. 50 shots from 180 BAR down to 110 BAR:
JSB 15.8gr
Average: 924fps
High: 935fps
Lo: 913
Extreme Spread: 22
Standard Deviation: 5

Here are the numbers:

I will take a SD of 5 for 50 shots any day over more velocity. Although both would be nice. The Edgun website says the velocity is adjustable. How do you adjust it?

The gauge on my Edgun shows 190 bar when I fill it slowly to 3100 by my fill tank gauge. My fill tank gauge is certified +or- 2% for the full scale. When I fill my 44 cubic foot carbon fiber tank to 4500psi, both it and the gauge on my 6000psi nitrogen tank read the same.

I think that I have read somewhere that the Edgun can be filled to 210 bar. On mine, going by the gun’s gauge, 210 bar would be around 3350psi. Bet I would get a huge regulated shot count with that!

No I have not compared it with another chronograph. I have an old chronograph that I will have to take out and use to double check. It is actually a nice Oehler 35P that I have had for a long time. It is kind of a pain to set up compared to the one I have now and it began giving errors so I got a new one. I am going to go shoot some groups in the morning if the wind cooperates maybe i will dig out the old chrony and double check my velocities.

quote Gpace:

Hey KG, have you compared your chrony reading with another? That may be the difference.

Or lighting…

Thanks guys for posting all this info on the EdGun, I’m wanting one more and more…

Hey NJ it looks like we were posting at the same time 😀

I played with the power adjustment today. My Edgun is still getting lower velocity than NJ’s but I am very happy with the consistancy. I turned the power adjusting screw in half turns at a time and shot over the chronograph. One full turn from the factory setting gave me my highest velocity with the 18.1 grain JSB at an average of 915fps. However after just 35 shots I was down to 120 Bar and velocity started to drop off quickly. The consistancy was really great over those 35 shots with an extreme spread of 15 and a SD of only 3. I found the best setting for me at a half turn on the power adjustment screw. Here I got a better balance between power and a long consistant shot string. With the 18gr JSB the average was 905fps with an ES of 15 and an SD of 4 over 50 shots. Again I ended at 120 Bar and velocity started to drop off after the 50th shot. Shot number 1 was 907fps and number 50 was 899fps. After that it started dropping with every shot. At those same settings the 15.8 grain JSB averaged 946fps with a ES of 15 and a SD of 4.
Overall I am very happy with my Edgun, just a little(very little) disappointed in the velocity. I have not yet had a chance to shoot it for groups. I will take it out tomorrow morning if the winds give me a break.
I have found that the meter on my fill tank on the meter on the Edgun do not read the same. When filling the meter on my 4500psi tank shows 200 BAR and the meter on the gun reads 185 BAR. I slowly raised the pressure on the gun untill it showed 200 BAR but the meter on my tank showed it to be almost 220 BAR. Anybody else find anything like that.

test

NJ, mine is number 1870 and it looks just like yours. I will play with the power adjuster tomorrow and see what happens. I will also give it a full tank of air. I will try for the highest velocity that still gives me 50 consistant shots. I don’t want to sacrifice shot count or consistancy for a small gain in velocity. 50fps difference probably won’t make the squirrels any “deader”! 😀

To increase the FPS, remove the stock. You will see a horizontal screw about 1 1/2″ inch long at the bottom front of the hammer housing. That is the hammer spring tension adjuster. There is a small lock screw that has to be loosened first then, turn the adjuster in 1/2 turn at a time and try the gun.

You can increase the speed but, the regulated shot count drops off rapidly. I ended up returning mine to the factory setting of around 900fps. At that speed, I get 58-60 shots ending with 894fps. I use only JSB 18.1s as per Tony and Ed’s sugestions.

njnoodles is getting more fps using JSB 18.1 grains? It has to be the velocity adjustment like you said. Awesome consistency though!

Thanks for posting your shot string. Please post your new results once you get it dialed.

I sent Tony an email asking how to adjust power. I will post his reply.
KG

I tried to look for a power adjuster on mine but since the manual is in russian I didn’t get to far. Email Tony or I will.

I am surprised at your FPS using the 15.9’s, that’s a tad low for what they say the 18.1’s should get. But agree that consistency is the key.

I need to get a chrony.
