Fixed my compressor Saturday (7/12/14)
So I haven’t used my shoebox in a while. I noticed that my compressor HAD a air leak. I narrowed it down to comming from one of the gauges. I confirmed this by swapping both gauges and the same gauge still leaked. I removed the gauge, took it apart and reinstalled it and start to fill the tank. After shutting off the compressor I was able to hear the hiss better, and after aplying soapy spray, I was able to pinpoint the culprit leak to a solder joint that was not totally sealed. So I broke out my solder iron and reaplied another bead. I then tested the gauge and the hiss was gone. I reassembled the gauge and install it again. Now my compressor is working in harmony with the shoe box.
When I first really noticed the leak, is when I tried to inflate a car tire to 35 PSI and it seamed as though there was not enough pressure even though the reg read 85 PSI.
The compressor is a Porter Cable pancake. I had bought it new about 2 years ago. 🙁
