If you ever price 5.7 ammo, you will quickly give up on the idea of this caliber and the guns to shoot it. $23.00 a box is the cheapest I’ve found it, and a lot of stores want close to $30 a box.

Wow dangerous drugs, I prefer Stolichnaya with a Corona chaser myself, I never did the hard drugs like tobacco.
Where I used to live, a beer run was a 15 mile round trip dirt road excursion over 25 MPH roads thru deep forest, so needle pigs were always targets of opprotunity.

much of its popularity with certain PoPo is Hollyweird influance from Stargate just as Die Hard & Lethal Weapon helped drive LE sales on an obscure German SMg and Italian 9mm pistol
You do realize many firearms manufactures pay major dollars to get their toys used in Big Box Office movies
same goes for Beer & Liqour companies as well as Tobacco
Me thinks there is a little air gun marketing philosophy in the assessment of the FPE of that round.

It does explain the police use of it…. 9mm and P90 have similar energy but 9mm has the “hole making” advantage.
P90 was developed as a “PDW”, Personal Defense Weapon and traces it’s roots to the close of the Cold War
The idea was that much of the next World War planning focused on massive Tank battles in Eastern Europe
obviously a weapon was needed that was highly compact but still capable of defeating Warsaw Pact light body armor, that’s what the 5.7mm P90 AP round was developed for in the early 80s.
basically it was designed as a last ditch weapon to be used after your Tank was disabled.
It is a very interesting piece but by the time it came out of FNs R&D the Cold War was already over which led to re-marketing efforts to Police Agencies who are better armed with a decent combat shotgun in most cases
I should add I have used several different examples and while a neat toy I think I actually prefer the Polish PM63 as a PDW…fine machined steel and extremely controllable
it was after all Yasir Arafat’s favorite toy 😉
400 ft/lbs is more than a 22 mag but the caliber is certainly still lacking a little.
It was touted as an entry gun by some police departments. Trouble is it is not much more than a 22 mag in ballistics, which always had me asking why? I guess it beats throwing rocks.
When I went thru the door, an Ithica 37 was always on the top of my list, but this was before the advent of AR15’s in our arsnal.

if you stalk the web you can find 5.7 ammo for little more than 5.56, heck even the regulated AP loading crops up cash & carry on the auction sites
