Q:

For AA s510 owners, a useful link

While not complete, this has some good info on taking these things apart. I’m working on getting more details for moderator removal (the gun, not the forum!). So far, it looks like using a 1/2″ UNF bolt, w/locktite, to replace the end cap, then using the bolt to unscrew the whole moderator. Sounds too simple.

you are a wealth of information hoot!

I didn’t use anything. It screws back on plenty tight.

Hoot

Thanks Hoot, I’ve got the rubber jar lid gripper but not a hair drier. I tried it without heat and it’s damn tight.

Maybe I can just put it under hot running water for awhile.

kidding of course. Someone out here has one I could borrow. For re-attaching, you think using the break-free locktite is wise? Or are the threads fine/tight enough without? Perhaps the residual original glue gums up the threads enough?

I used a Hair Dryer on the breech end of the shroud and got it really hot.

It is best to use a grip enhancer to grab that 3/4″ shroud, a bare hand might not get the job done. Some padded pliers, a rubber lid remover for glass jars, or a sliding grip wrench with a rubber strap to grab the shroud would do nicely.

It just held on with a bit of glue. Heat melts or softens it and then it will come off with a tight grip and a quick turn. Once it breaks free, it’s really easy to unscrew.
