Forearm relieved for sound … Purple Rain

We are calling this grip set Purple Rain the forearm was completed a couple of days ago but I noticed when firing the rifle that it had gained a snap to the sound of the firing sequence. Seems I forgot to relieve the wooden forearm to allow for air escape thru the frame.

I ground the tip flat on an old drill bit for bottoming purposes … this gives the relieving a nice flat bottom in the forearm.

Once relieved it is quieter than with the factory grip on as it seals better to the frame forcing the air to return back thru the drilled frame/bushing combo.

The forearm shape I designed was to match the angular look of the Talon frame. It is trim and I ruined many pieces in the beginning by routing thru the wood destroying the piece while trying to fit it to the rifle. I finally got the shape and depth of cuts right.

This has 12 coats on it now and I will reduce the shine to a sheen after it cures for another week … then I can wax it with Johnsons Paste Wax and reduce some of that mirror like glare.

I am real happy with the purple laminate … the pistol grip is coming along nicely … next to make another set in Royal Camo 🙂
