Q:

FT Scope For 30 Cal Cricket – The Search Begins

While my 30 cal Cricket is being constructed I decided to start shopping for scopes. I have arbitrarily set the budget at $1k but ok if it goes over a little but I know this is low for the better scopes. The requirement is 32x minimum on the max mag. I am pretty picky on reticles and prefer glass etched. All good suggestions appreciated with specific models and links. It seems a lot of higher end scopes can double as an FT scope. I have been reading about FT and the value of FT scopes – at least enough to be dangerous. I see Optisan is getting into the FT arena and I found out I can order specific MTCs through SWFA who carries just the Mamba in stock or from papertargets.com in Wisconsin.

Thanks in advance….

I have the NF 8-32 and I am not impressed with what it cost. My $500 US 8-32 Hawkes give it a run for the money and I paid $1500 US for the NF. March are rated as outstanding including the 80x. I have a video link on this forum somewhere with the 80x on a 1000 yard target and it looks real good. For me it costs quite a bit more than the NF.

Have you looked at the Sightron 10-50s? They are Japanese and very good. The Schmidt & Bender rival the March quality and cost wise.

Today I went to buy a Night Force 5-25 scope with 34mm tube, I loved the reticle & the clarity but unfortunately the shop was asking for 18,000 dhs for it which is $4890 and this same scope sells for $2300 in the U.S that how much of a ripoff it is here, in fact I loved it so much I even offered him to pay $3000 but they refused.

So I still have that budget to burn on a good scope & I am open to suggestions, what do people think of the March 80x ?! I also tried the 32x NF with 30mm tube but that looked dull and a bit foggy.

It sure can´t be uglier. If it will Fredrik Axelsson should shoot his chief designer,

It scared me away. Maybe the Bobcat Gen II will be prettier?

My only comfort being that you guys get raped by the FX prices. BTW – Have i ever mentioned the FX Bobcat being ugly ??

That price sux.

That´s a good price. For export restrictions i have a solution called “friends in the States” so that doesn´t have to be a problem.
Check out the Swedish price on that same scope … http://www.handladigitalt.se/leupold-competition-45×45-target-dot-kikarsikte-p-714.html
Mind you- the Swedish Crown vs Dollar exch. rate is one USD = 6.7 SKR so 12.000 SKR = 1791 USD 😯

Leupold Comps are some of the best IMO. They fix their prices so they tend to be the same at many dealers. I don’t know if they have export restrictions.

While we´re talking scopes here what about a Leupold Comp. ?? Is that a good alternative for rimfire (.22LR & .17HMR) benchresting ?? I know nothing about American brand scopes except that couple of my friends who own Bush. Tacticals are using them for their measly FX Royal´s. Those are nice,BTW (the scopes – not the POS FX´s) and one other air¨rifle afficionado who has a Leo VX something in 4.5-14 and that has very clear optics on it.
So – what about them Comp´s in 35x then ? Where to buy without one´s wallet getting manhandled ??

Midway is in my extended neighborhood. Larry charges me tax. 😮

Same place as my link, Midway.

Got the last one without the illuminated reticle (although the Sightron IR is the BEST), the MOA2 reticle and the 1/4″ clicks.

When I told the wife that the cheap scope was about $500 after I told her what the gun cost she just about did a back flip out of her recliner. 😆 I may be beaten back down to a third Hawke SW 8-32×56 SR Pro (I do love the reticle). :2: On a positive note if I get the scope now it signifies a commitment to her on the gun purchase. 😀 She holds all of the cards. 😯

She asked me if I was really going to compete (my latest try for justification on a high end scope) but she knows Its only my same gang that shoots the Buck Marks to see who buys the beer. One of the other guys is single and buys whatever he wants and the third just doesn’t tell his wife any of his purchases. 😛 When the guy with the wife told her I was buying my third gun like this and scope this year she gave him the evil eye yet she just made him move and buy her a new house. 👿

Both other guys ordered .25 Crickets and Hawkes for the events. 🙂 They really like my .22 Cricket but not so much on the .25 standard Matador since it is bulky next to the Cricket.

That is a very nice scope. Can I ask where you went?

Ordered the Sightron yesterday, should have it tomorrow… :8:

Now I need to get a wheel for it.

I think the S&B 12-50 FT has the same amount of elevation travel as the S&B 12-50 PMII which is 75 MOA with the 1/8 MOA MT knobs, 65 MOA with the 1/4 MOA MT knobs, and 70 MOA with the 1/4 cm MT knobs. I *might* be wrong though, because while I have used a 12-50 x 56 PMII I have not used a 12-50 x 56 Field Target.

Also keep in mind the 12-50 FT has the parallax settings optimized for close in FT work and has a parallax adjustment range of 7-70m for finer ranging capability.

If you’re serious and want the actual elevation amount clarified an S&B USA tech posts regularly on another forum I frequent and I can ask him for specifics. I do find it odd that S&B’s webpage lists the elevation travel specs for the 12-50 PMII but not for the 12-50 FT.
