Q:

FX BobCat 30cal @ 70 Yards…

Still ugly, but these groups are pretty!

Not mine (obviously) but I certainly wouldn’t kick it out of bed for eating cookies…

5 shot groups at 70 yards, the diameter of a dime is under 1/2″.

FX uses that design too. I call AF guns the black guns of the airgun world. They are completely modifiable and upgradeable like an AR but a bit ugly. They need some upgrades too to be decent shooters. A few other guns are out there that are being used for accurate long range shooting too but I am not real familiar with them like some others on this forum. Guns like Rangers, Haley Scandalous, FX Tarantula, Recluse, or Corsairs but some are no longer being manufactured. I heard Jack Haley who I guess made a lot of the 257 barrels just recently died so I don’t know that impact on these guns.

Hey Coda

I kinda don’t like the look of the condor. What I like the least is the bottle in the back used as the stock. I’ll consider a different gun, but not that one. The Haley is the one I’ve seen people talking about the most….it looks LONG but I don’t know the details or what’s involved with that gun.

I have a Condor with an R&L Extreme valve waiting for R&L (Randy) to get a .257 barrel that fits a standard Lyman cast bullet available commercially (I Don’t want to mess with lead or cast either). They are trying to get the bullets and lead in to be standardized so he can sell the standard setup for those of us who don’t want to cast. I know Randy and got this information through personal emails with him. πŸ™‚ Last time we talked he was trying to get the the right reamer to cut the right lead for several lengths of the standard Lyman bullet spec. Randy’s purpose is to create a barrel that he will sell where the cast bullets can be commercially purchased and still achieve the incredible accuracies at long distance (several hundred yards) some are achieving.

Ok….tell you what, I’ll research it. #1. Tell me what gun or guns. #2 what mold…cuz I don’t want to experiment. #3. What mods need to be done. Then I’ll read everything I can find and ask you a bunch of questions in “other guns” and I’ll decide. Looks like a might have got a Christmas present request for the fam. πŸ˜‰

Doc, once I fire lapped the barrel, I no longer have much of a leading problem. I thought I would hate casting, but fund I enjoy it. It’s great for unwinding when the weather is too bad to enjoy shooting. πŸ˜€ And there is just somthing about making small groups with bullets that you made yourself. Not to bention that it is a hell of a lot cheaper than large pellets. Again, no biggie, but small groups, from bullets youmade yourself, and for virtually nothing once set up is a Win-Win πŸ˜€ πŸ˜‰

And a big Plus, is the .257 seems like it could care less if the wind is blowing like a hury cane or not. 😈 Even gusting winds. Somthing a Pellet shooter could never do! And here in Central Texas, that is a Very Big Biggie!!!

Hey KM

Went to other guns already. The read on the .257 was awesome. The range and power is amazing for an airgun. I just don’t want to get into casting and cleaning out the barrel and stuff. It’s a lot of damn work! But it’s frickin awesome!!!! I’m going to watch the developement of all of your successes and hope for an out of the box gun and packaged bullets that have ironed out some of those cleaning issues. Lol. Then I will get in line to get one! Still blows me away with the long range accuracy!

Lee, do you use a wounded/hurt prey animal call to get the coyote in close?

Here in the mountains, I can hear the packs “yipping” at dusk to get a group together for the night. Other nights, I hear nothing.

One morning, about 3:00 am, I was sitting on my steps and watched a coyote trot past up on the hard road, about 30 yards distance. I was unarmed at the time.

I’m thinking about putting up a stand in some wetland areas about 1/2 mile from my house, and trying to call some critters into Gen 1 night vision range, and see if
I can drop a few with some 45 to 55gr slugs in my .25 Edgun Long.

The key is to get them to where I can place a shot accurately. I know just about nothing regarding game calls.

They may also regurgitate the left-overs from a Michelin guide approved restaurant. I think itΒ΄s 3:7. Or so it says in the package. My wife bought it to me just to mess around with me. She knows how much i hate these smallish devices.
My fingers are like a bunch of Dicks and i have difficulties tapping those little icons… Years and years of beating sandbags does wonders for your knuckles and fingers, damn it !

Yep! Form follows function!

DrSteele, The .257 hits harder, more accurate, with more down range terminal balistics than “ANY” Pellet.

I invite you to take a look at the .257 threads in “Other Guns” Just above these threads.
My .257 can shoot that kind of groups at 200 150 yards, and Tufastfou can do it at 250+yards with his. RoachCreek has a vid of Killing coke cans at 600+ yards with his! 😯 They start at high4er velocity, with much more weight and a much higher BC. Than ANY Pellet. There is really no compairson at all. Other than they both are propelled by air.

Hey Hoot, the “yipping” is to protect their territory. Coyotes can hear much better than we can, when the “yipps” don’t come from their territory other coyotes move in to investigate and fill any voids in the family chain. Not only will they move in and instantly adopt any foster pups, they have a “welfare” system. They will take care of a hurt or injured coyote which they come across. Most animals would die from injury, a set “male & female” coyotes will almost always take care of a injured coyote that can’t hunt itself. They will come back after hunting and puke food back up to the injured dog.
Some say roaches will be the last thing crawling around earth after a major catastrophe, I think the coyotes will be there eating the roaches. Beside a license plate, there isn’t much a coyote won’t eat.

Hoot: if you try to shoot a coyote and you don’t have any arms: just how in the hell are you going to hold the Matador and shoot it?

WTF! If you want to shoot a coyote, you need to remember to bring your arms along with the Matador unless you simple minded Arkansas Ozark Mountain savages shoot your guns using your toes.
