FX Royale 400& Leupold VXIII 4.5×14 LR Holland reticle
I got the FX Royale and the Leupold scope in today along with some Sports Match rings.
The scope was advertised as being a 30 MOA ART reticle and was in fact a 21 MOA reticle, it is so frickin cool I can live with that.
I mounted the scope on the rilfe and was able to sight it in and get two groups off the 58 220s Mercedes before dark.
I usually shoot my Condor and Ranger 45 at this range, if I get 1/2 inch I am stoked, the FX Royale did not shoot 1/2 inch groups. It shot two groups with identicle measurements, .21 for 5 shots, twice.
I bought a bottle of expensive French Vodka made from grapes that I am nursing this evening, it is so very smooth, but not as smooth as this rifle scope comination.
Tomorrow it is another day starting with a 5 mile power hike, hoping hot coffee shakes off the effects of this fine vodka, up and down the hills in the vineyard, then some 50 to 100 yard benchrest shooting.
Life here in Oregon is a dark and lonely job, but someone has to do it.

Just got done shooting the Royale 400 after playing with the power adjustor and the trigger and safety.
First, AOA shipped me a gun with the safety disconnected. The screw was all the way in that is supposed to bear on the trigger when on safe.
Not that I trust safeties, but nice to have it if it works, unlike the AF safety.f
I adjusted the trigger for less 1st stage and a lighter pull, and then increased the velocity from 905 to 950 FPS.
It 50 yards it put 5 shots, 18.1 grain Exacts, into .475. It raised the drop at 100 yards from 13.5 to 10.5 inches. It is a little louder, but I live in the country so no problem there.

I have to admit to being on a buying spree when I bought the Royale 400.
I had been watching that gun on their used site for some time, but my first question to them when the finalnly answered the phone was: do you have a 25 Elite? When he ansered no I asked about the 400 and the purchase was made.
The Royale 500 does not get my interest these days as it has in the past, having a Condor that is the same length and shoots pretty well at 130 FPE, and another Condor on a Talon frame with an 18 inch barrel that pretty much dupicates the Royale 500’s ballitics in a much smaller package, but not shot count and of course not its accuracy.
Time will tell how much I use them in the future tho, when you have a gun that shoots the same place day in and day out with a shot count like the Royale and the ergonomics of the Royale the Condor can and does become a wallflower.
THe 130 FPE Condor however does fill a niche with its power with cast bullets tho and will be in a case when I go to the desert next time for sure.

I must confess a secret and repressed burning desire for a Royale 500. I really like my .25 Marauder and .25 LoneStar. Both shoot well, however the dismal shot count of just 7 shots from the LoneStar leaves me interested in the 80+ shot Royale. I do like my .25 Marauder, but like you have said, its stock is related to a fence post. 😉

When I was a kid growing up, the only handgun we owned was a severly out of time breaktop Iver Johnson 38 S&W.
I wanted to shoot the gun so dad welded the cylinder to the top strap and we ground off the hand and made it a single shot.
I always thought Thompson Center owed us a royalty over that. 😆
To test it, dad put up a broken whiskey bottle neck up at 8 feet and we shot the only 4 cartirdges we had on the ranch at it, we missed all four times.
My dad looked at me and said,”Son that may be the most dangerous thing you face in life, a neck of a whiskey bottle coming at you.”
Such true words.
Now the reason we only had 4 38 S&W’s was as a boy of 10, I used to load them singly into our 1898 vintage 30-30 MDL 94 and shoot them.
😯 Yep, you read right, I was shooting a 38 S&W 148 grain bullet in a 30 caliber rifle. The slopeing chamber of the 30-30 would swage them down to 30 caliber, when they exited the barrel they would not penetrate a tin soup can. So I really got into bullet swaging at age 10. 😆
I got the idea from a tv western movie, the hero’s wife had shot the bad guy after her sheriff husband with a pistol cartridge in a rifle, the fact that it was a 44-40 didn’t mean anything to me at the time.
Fucking wonder I lived long enough to reach adulthood.

Last week at this time, there were litterally clouds of Starlings in the vineyard.
We did not harvest this year because due to the weather, the sugar level did not reach our self imposed level, and there is a glut of grapes compared to the amount of Wineries to process them.
So the birds ate well, 20 to 25 tons on both vineyards.
What fun it would have been to have this gun last week.

Drinks and guns are both dangerous, combine them and they are often fatal. The old timers called booze “I be smart”.
I did my hike, only 4 miles this morning because I wanted to shoot, in the grape rows beside my range.
Then I shot the gun at 50 yards to get a zero, just shooting 3 shot groups that were going into 1/2 to 1/3 inch, then I went to 80 yards to get a zero for the crow killing Doug Fir out of my bedroom window. It put 5 into around .70. The group landed squarely on the 6 MOA dot so I had that setting.
Then I moved it to 100 yards and found the group landed on the 13.5 MOA slash mark. It was stringing off to the right between 2 and 3 minutes, but I had a variable 2 mph wind coming in from left to right so that should be correct.
One of the differences between the Holland 21 MOA and the Holland 30 MOA reticle is on the 30 MOA the optic center is 3 inches above the intersection of the reticle to give more MOA’s of drop. So if you sight in on the intersection of the reticle like we all do, and then change the power on your 2nd FP scope, it changes impact. On the FFP Holland reticle scopes this does not change the point of impact.
I tested to make sure my scope was not optically centered 3 inches above the reticle intersection by sighting in at 100 yards, by moving the elevation up 13.5 minutes, and shooting a 5 shot group on 14 power and again one at 4.5 power using the same aiming point. The groups overlapped each other. So now I have a 50 80 and 100 yard aiming point.
I fired 60 shots this morning from a 200 bar fill, that put me down to 140 bar. At the end of the 5 magazine the shots were dropping out of the group at 100 yards. Next time I will fill to 220 bar and see what that does.
I do not have shrouds on my Condors or my Ranger 45, so shooting the Royal outside it is so quiet it sounds like the gun is broken.

Yeah it is sweet alright. We have clear weather here today, if the wind is not howling I will see how it shoots at 50 and 100 yards.
I will also see if I have the scope on straight. The darn things have always been hard for me to get on straight, I never have purchased any of the devices to get them straight, just eyeballed them. And since I only have one eye it makes it difficult.
So I try to find a windless day, shoot at 50 and then at 100 and see whether the groups drift on me and correct it untill they don’t anymore.
Primitve way to do it I know, but fool proof.
The vodka was Ciroc, I never drink cheap vodka, it gives you hangovers. I buy a bottle once a month, and restrict my drinking to two or three nights a month, sort of a discipine thing. I have had Stoly, Monopolova Grey Goose, which are all fine vodka’s in their own right. In many asian countries they are not available. I find that Absoult swill from Sweden to be hornedous, but the French Gape vodka is just the smoothest sipping stuff I have ever drank.
I spent a large part of my career in a job that required me to drink, but because it was so damn dangerous, I had to keep my head about me. As a result even if I drink a half a fifth at a setting, I never get silly, mean or stupid drunk, and being as part of my career was as a DUII specialist I don’t respect those that do, and as a result I don’t drive or play with guns when drinking either, Shaggy.
I have not a sign of a hangoverthis morning, which is the test of a good vodka. I never drink mix drinks, preferring to drink it over the rocks, or chilled in the freezer and then poured into a set of Jade shot glasses I got on the border of Mynamar and Thailand. It was s set of four that I carried all over asia, two remain in Manila and I have two here in the US.
For me I stay away from the grain vodkas, and even tho I love Russian Stoly, it is made from grain and I have a Gluten intolerance. Monopolva from Austria I believe, is a bargain and is made from potatoes, but from now on Ciroc even at 30 bucks a bottle will be the drink for me, and I only buy one bottle a month so 30 bucks instead of 20 for Stoly won’t break me.
Spending two grand on a BB gun is another thing. 😯

Only problem i have with rifles as fine as this, is they become boring cuz you never have to call flyers.
You should use this one on hornets. Shooting bees off their nest is quite fun at 40 yards or so. Hehe
