FX Royale 500 rice sock groups
The rice sock bit seems to work really well, so far. Haven’t tried it on a springer yet. Here are some specs:
Starting fill 200 bar, but dicked with scope adjustments for first six shots, so groups started at about 185 bar. JSB .25 cal. 25.4 gr Kings. Hoot, the rice sock was under the fore grip; the wooden front grip of the gun was resting, using the miracle of gravity, on top of the rice sock; it was not shooting through the rice. (Sorry folks, Hoot requires special details in order to dream up something within the boundaries of non-reality.)
All groups of five @ 40 yds., shouldered. Targets just under an inch in diam.
I can’t tell if the last group was due to my error-trigger finger starting to freeze, or the tank pressure getting below 160 bar. Some of the groups look like more than five shots due to the paper being pasted to a pizza box. The lead print reveals the placement. No Hoot, there wasn’t any pizza in the box. 🙄

FX Royale 500 w/reg ordered :8: I already have the rice :wink:. Though I don’t plan on doing a lot of bench shooting, I am going to pick up a Stoney Point shooting bipod. Got the green light to do pesting for rabbits and woodchucks at a friend’s farm.
Bogman, your gun seem to be settling in after a couple hundred rounds? What scope and rings do you have? Any droop problems or maxing out the scope adjustments?

No dust like when using sand. Does not have the weight issue of lead.
Quick update regarding shot-count: Ran 2 more mags, 22 pellets, from the same fill. The 158 bar (where I left off) warmed up to 160 bar. At 160, the 22 shots were still making dime-sized groups. Final pressure 140 bar. Had to stop due to rain. That’s 47+ accurate shots off one fill. I want to continue draining the tank to see where accuracy suffers, can’t be long. The regulator is doing its job.

Brian, hard waiting eh? It didn’t take long at all for the gun to settle in, mostly me figuring how stiff/loose to hold it.
Rings are pretty high, about one inch. I actually got an FX scope, since the price was decent and it had some characteristics I was looking for: I like the side wheel for parallax adj., esp. w/ gloves on, and the option for a simple illuminated reticle. When rabbit hunting in the eve, I lose black crosshairs in darker shadows or brush, so the IR is handy. It’s a 6-18×44 SFIR.
No scope or mounting issues; it’s working well. I still haven’t stretched out the paper tests to see how far it shoots with authority; this place is too brushy and I’ll need to setup somewhere relatively flat and open.
I also picked up some 5 diopter “reading” glasses so I can take a closer look at the pellets without holding a magnifying glass or using the ring light magnifier. You have to hold them close, but it helps a lot at finding imperfections. Plus, they fit in a pocket.
More and more, the rabbits are coming out after dark. There are a lot of folks pushing the Pulsar Digiscopes, but I haven’t heard much feedback or reviews. Damn expensive, too. I’m looking into high power red LED flashlights first.
Have fun at the farm! The rodents are in some serious peril.
