Gas Ram experience?
Hey guys I posted a while ago about these but don’t remember exactly why I didn’t get one? HW90(in .25) is the one I’m thinking of but am looking again for your guys experience…
Rob, I think you had some insight on the Gas Rams didn’t you?
Will a Bushnell 3200 scope hold up the gas rams? I think it will but are there any other choices?

That might have just been a light pellet breaking sound barrier.. or dieseling.
I had a Gamo Shadow which shot .177 CPH’s at 800 fps.. every now and then it would send one supersonic from it deiseling.
The Patriot is quieter than my 410 on full power. I could use it in my yard without much trouble.
Shroud/Silencers dont help that much is what you hear.. but then people say the shroud on the TX200 works well……. Cygnusc shrouded an RWS 48 and he said it worked well… I just dont think its worth the effort like it is on a PCP or CO2.
Thanks for the info guys! I’ll do some more looking and pondering. For some reason a springer keeps coming into my mind so I might have to succumb to temptation.
Thanks for the info on the scopes also…from reading they are scope busters I was thinking only high end scopes could live…nice to know there are some tough scopes that are a bit cheaper.
Does a LDC help on the springers at all? How quiet can a powerful one actually be? The last springer I had .177 Gamo Hunter 440 had a pretty good crack to it when fired, definitely not a backyard gun. I never tried to quiet it down though and it had a pretty good spring twang too.

I just ordered a leapers 3-9×32 scope…. figured thats all I’d need on a springer.
I’ll let you know how that along with a B-square adjustable mount holds up on the Webley. I chronied it last night and it does 850fps with JSB’s…. the same as my SS.
The RX2’s are heavy… Then again, many springers are… my HW97LK is right at 10lbs… TX200’s are heavy…. basically, with a springer, more weight is generally a good thing as it reduces hold sensitivity. I sold a Tomahawk in .25 because I couldnt shoot it well. 8lb spring gun at 20fpe just didnt mix well… and I consider myself to be fairly experienced with springers.
If I could get 1000fps out of a springer in .25, I’d not care about cocking effort either!
Dont get me wrong, I’m not knocking rammed guns at all. I’m just saying that I tune most of my own guns. I’ve bought guns before based on availability of aftermarket tune kits…
far as a rammed gun, my personal dream ram gun is a Theoben Evolution. little 12fpe gun…
I had a peep on my Benjamin 392….. and to be honest I was no better than open sights.
I was going to buy the mendoza peep for $30 and give it a whirl again but I think I’d have better luck with a peep on a recoiless rifle or a pistol at short range.
I certainly couldnt get groups like rob got at 25 yards…. nice rob.!
rob3dr I have a RX-2 that shots good enough seems a little on the heavy side are the springers lighter. started with a Legend 5×15 then got a Leapers 8×32 shot a lot never had a problem with either one.As far as cocking effort I think if I could get 1000 fps in 25 cal out of a springer or a gas ram wouldn’t care how hard it was . No pumps or tanks sounds great.
Great suggestion… peeps can be VERY accurate. Here is a group with a peep I recently done… of course, this was out of a FWB300S, but still… no scope.
YN: what about going for something different, such as a Peep Sight?
Yes, the Leapers are great glass for cheap. Since you mentioned a 3200, I figured you wanted to go a step up and so I mentioned the Legend…
But if you are looking for cheaper glass that holds up well, the smaller Leapers are great. I had one on a Tomahawk .25 … a known scope killer… that did just fine.
Rams are fine. I prefer a good tuned spring gun personally, but thats just me. There is a sharp recoil to a rammed gun, much like a good tuned springer.
The shorter lock time… I dont know about that one. I’ve heard it, but cant say I’ve ever noticed any such thing. The 3200 should work fine on it, as should any decent springer rated scope. For the money, the Legend 5x15x40 is great.
Rams are harder to cock than their spring counterparts, dont know that would be an issue or not, but I wouldnt think so.
Dont know that I’ve helped much… I’m pretty indifferent to spring vs ram powerplants. Since I like to work on my springers, I give the advantage to the springer, but thats just me.
My (DH’s) Patriot has a gas ram. VERY consistant the few times I’ve tried it. One 10 shot string was only 1.5fps max deviation.
I actually asked rob this very question via email and his reply was that the smaller leapers TS scopes should hold up.
I’m still torn between scoping the Patriot or just sticking to open sights…..

Bushnell 3200 7-21 by 40 mil-dot is $350 Decent, springer rated scope.
Leupold 3-9 by 33 Ultralight EFR is $350 too, springer rated. Lifetime warranty.
Straightshooters have them both.
I’d go with a Leupold.
