Q:

Gen 4 Vulcan .25 pellet question

What speed and pellet would you recommend, to start with when looking for a great combination. Right now My Vulcan .25 gen4 is shooting at 880fps with a 25.4gr JSB. Its seems to be a little finicky. I cleaned the barrel. When shot across a cronie it has a nice FPS spread of 879 to 885 but about every 5th or 6th shot it shots off a 1 inch. Any Ideas would be great

the shroud can give you headache, try to twist it 45deg or shoot it completely without the shroud, sometimes these are not concentric and may just slightly touch the pellet.

obviously it cant be too bad as yours is holding for few shots.

if the fps is consistent it is not the reg and hammer are problem, but if couple of old years old might just need o rings swapped, tear and wear and age.

pellet probe connection firm nothing too lose, it supposed to be not too tight, i would look under the cover on the top
also the pellet probe acts like a guide for the pellet probe, i would look for any tear and wear.

When I got my first Vulcan I had the same problem. First thing I did was to remove the moderator and test fire another group, yep it was clipping. Then I removed all the cones in the moderator and drilled them out one size larger. Retested, problem solved. My new Vulcan2 has a whole new moderator design and no clipping at all. And what a shooter it is.
It seems the Vulcan no matter in .22 or .25 love the JSB pellet.

That’s a great idea on the single loading system.
so I have a up date on my Vulcan problem. Tonight I dug into my problem. At first I began to think it was the pellets, maybe part of the problem. The can of Jsb’s that I been using sure has a lot of bent skirts. But with further investigation I noticed that the pellets where clipping the moderator. One small change on the moderator, my Vulcan is now pellet on pellet. Ive only owned this gun a month. The first worry was I had bought a lemon. Or I was going nuts, becouse I’ve never heard about a Vulcan with any problems that cleaning or a o-ring couldn’t fix.
Thanks Joe

Single load to see if it helps.
If it does, check the mag at that 5-6 shot locations for burrs or miss feeds …..

If you have fat fingers like me here a DIY tip to make it easier to single load just for testing.
Need a tube or straw that fit your caliber size, a stick for a handle and some tape.
Cut the tube to fit into the receiver/mag slot.

Tape the tube to a stick and load up.

Cock the gun and place loader/pellet into the receiver and close the both/lever, leave the loader in place ………….. Fire and reload as needed, and save it for later.
