Q:

GET THE BLUE JAY SHROUD REVIEW

Mods if this should of been in the shrouds and mods. section, i apologize and please move. Now, on to the review. First and foremost to all those reading up on shrouds, keep in mind i’m writing this review with nothing to compare it to. I got this shroud from “get the blue jay” (Scott) from Arizona. He shipped it to me VERY well packed so as to assure it arrived with no damage (nice job Scott) BUT had no instructions (fix that Scott) My initial impression was “this aint gonna work” looking at it, i wasn’t impressed. I could see there was something down inside the tube (baffles?) it appears to be non-servicable. I got my gun out of the case and cranked off a blank in the living room to show the wife and myself how loud it sounded indoors, then went to slip it on………….no slipeee, so i wedgeeeeeed it on and looked down through the barrell from the breach, Looked good. Cracked off another round………..Hmmm DEFINATELY quieter. Mouse fart quiet……….no. Went to remove it and here’s where all hell broke loose……..I had a HELL OF A TIME getting that !@#$%^&*( off. Finally did, i had to be extra careful not to damage my gun #1 and the shroud #3. I got it off and removed a layer of tape which made it alllllll better now thank you very much and DUH. Yesterday (Sunday Sept.21st) I took it shooting, i took my Son and a friend of his (trying to do my part) and told them we were gonna do a back to back test. I fired a shot with it on, imediately followed by one with it off. Outside i was more impressed. The kids said it was “Night and day”. So i had my sons friend shoot it 20-30 feet from me and yes it is a BIG difference. One thing i noticed that i did NOT like is how much longer it makes the gun. It makes me want to try the set up (12″ barrel i think) that fits ALL inside the frame. I would GUESS that it’s a 75% reduction in report. Just a guess. One thing is great about it is it (the report) doesn’t not scare the squirrels anymore. Now, if we could figure out a way to make it shorter……..

GTBJ is a solid Dude and I am sure he is quick to forgive, especially since you meant no malice.

I didn’t take it that way from the review, Sam. I agree 100% in that the length of shroud needed to quieten down a Condor is daunting and indeed off putting for many. WOK has a great point in that a shorter barrel will allow for 80% of the power with the same noise level but in a much shorter package, and if I even get a Condor again that is what I will be doing.

SavSam,

Silencing a Condor is no silent feat. And it sounds like Get the BJ did well for you. As of the hard part getting it on that is due to the variance of the ID of the main tube. The first clue is if you have to wedge it on…..that is when you remove the tape….lol

If you go to a 12″ barrel just know your velocity will drop but you could get away with a much shorter shroud.

Ask yourself this question ” What do I want more a quiet airgun or a powerfull one?”

Then base all your decisions on the answer.

I guess maybe i want my cake and to eat it too. I know, can’t have that.

OK! I re-read the review and Slapped myself! It looks as if i’m looking a gift horse in the mouth. I want to go public here and apologize to Scott for the way i handled this. I should of wrote the review to him in a P/M FIRST, THEN, let him correct me and tweak it BEFORE i wrote a public one. MY BAD. I never intended to offend or sound ungrateful. For that I am sorry. I should of also known not to force or if the shroud did not slip on easily how was i gonna get it off??? Hence the comment “DUH” I feel bad now. Here’s a guy who sends me a shroud with no money up front, says “try it out and tell me what you think” and i come across as “i could of done it better myself” I never meant for it to sound that way, but reading it i can see how some might interpret it that way. I’m sorry Scott no offense meant and please forgive me.

GTBJ P/M sent.
