Getting ready for .257
Starting to get a little excited! I have a lyman 257420 mold that drops bullets a 258 and my Condor frame and shroud is ready (except for a powder coat) for the TJ barrel I just ordered and Doug is close to having the valves done, so I should be slinging lead next weekend? ( Just kidding Doug 😛 )

Knife,
Glad you got that die in. There is still SOME stuff left out there for us gun nuts to buy. We just gotta dig though…..lol!
Tag,
Its looking good. Glad you got the 1-10 twist like RC. Now there will be twice the info out there to make comparisons. Shoot a lot and polish that barrel a couple times. Groups are gonna shrink and shrink. My barrel brand new got 1 MOA at 100 yards when i first got it. Now its uuuuuuuuuunder that comfortably…lol!
I got in the sizing die from Lee P. today. Tof found one on the net, and I got her ordered. .258. should do the job! 😉 😀
Knife, Those are from the lyman 257420 mold. Seems like most have had good results from that bullet, so I thought it would be a good one to start with.
Anticipation is kiln me! 😆
What bullets were those Tad D.?

I can say for certain that you need to keep your shots under 550 yards unless your going for 16 oz cans. 😛
Can you get 550 yards there without shooting over water?
Doug drove up here today to go shooting with me with his uber Condors.
That is quite a BB gun your getting together there.

Im thinking a trip to the Glades with an Airboat, a few 10′ bamboo poles with cans on top and a 12 foot bang stick. Setup for 551 yards and then …..after I shoot all my bullets and miss all the cans I can still go Gator hunting with the bang stick 😛

I forgot to mention the 2 ragged looking holes are from two shots that went through a 2×4 I stood up to the left of my aiming hole 😛
TJ’s 1 in 10 .257 barrel arrived and it looks great! Got the breech end turned down and polished to Doug’s specs at .374 and the breech is also done.
Then I got the bright idea to shim out one of Dougs early version .25 valves to .375 then…. big um dump um….. 😕 Doug said he had that same problem with that valve/barrel combination with some success using a stiffer return spring soooooo… off I go to the hardware store and found a stiffer V spring which helped some especially when I also took most of the preload off the breech.
It still barks (partial dumps) every few shots, but its good enough that I can have a little fun before the real deal valve gets here.
That 1 in 10 barrel puts a good spin on the .257s and is punching some very clean holes. The upper right hole is the 1st shot and the one I was aiming for on the others. I know not a very good group, but I was flinching bad exspecting an eye full of scope from a possible dump every shot 😆

Then they will make the stem retainer and stem for .257/.308.
Do you have some support for the barrel in that shroud?
I still have to make 2 vented bushings to keep things centered, but cant do that until the barrel gets here. Im trying to keep the over length as short as possible. There are only 4 baffels tward the front the 1st being vented to direct air to the back of the tube. Also has a carbon insert with small vent holes to bleed some of the extra air away.

I almost feel ashamed to say that I have not have had one minute of time to shoot my .257. I can feel the virtual slaps hitting my cheeks through the screen right now 😳
Every week, just when I think I have a moment, something else pops up that takes my chances away. I must hold on to the hope that soon I will get out with it.
Yes, that shroud is sick looking. Do tell?
That is one “WILD” Looking Shroud Tad! 😯 😀
Such a shame that Dougs shroulds were so work intensive. Would love to have one. They were a marvel of workmanship. 😯
Doug is cutting my .257 bbl. to 21″ as the shroud I have will only accept that length. Would have really liked to be able to use a longer barrel. Hope 21″ will be enough to “Get’er Done!
I’m like a Dog chaseing my tail around here. Getting way excited! 😀
Christmas was never like this. This is Kill’n me. I don’t think I will ever grow up! 😳 😀

Getting closer. Talked to them today and will pickup the last pieces for .25 on Thursday when I’m off.
