Good .22 rifle?
Hey all.. taxes are here got mine done! Got over 1k.. happy camper here.
I have enough air guns. I need to make a firearms purchase. I have a Springfield model 16 .22lr at the moment.
Wonder what you all think is a very good / accurate .22 rifle?
I was looking at savage, ruger, and cz. Or S&W MP15-22 for fun.
.22 is the cheapest to shoot. I do have a plan to get a R700 SPS Varmint in .308. HS Precision stock and Burris mount for her. .308 is expensive to shoot and the range around here is only 100 yards.
Some input would be appreciated

my youngest son has the tac m 4 chiappa 22,the other has the mossburg version,they both are 22 cal made to look like the AR,the chappi comes apart like an AR the mossburg does not,they have shot many rounds through them both. I have had a remington semi auto since I was 14yrs old,hunted many a vermit with it still shoots straight and true.
Shadoh : where did you get the twist rate info for the .22lr Savage Mark II?

Did some searching and found Cz452 and the Mark II TR both have a 1 in 16 twist rate?

Well if you did decide to get an auto, also look at the GSG-5. I have a Gen-1
and there was some modding to do to it. I think the first generation issues are solved in the third gen (GSG 522). It’s a fun gun and looks pretty sweet.
Having had HKs and used suppressed MP5’s it’s still fun but not made at all like the real thing. Accuracy is not too bad either as carbines go.
The nice thing about the Savage is it has a higher twist barrel than the others. This is great if you decide to put a can on it and run subsonic rounds. I plan on doing that “someday”. I hear the triggers on the newer Savages are awesome as well.
They are all good just get the one that fits you.
I have the Chipmunk Oregon arms 22 and the rugger 1022 auto with green mountain barrel, and the CZ and the savage and multiple 22 pistols and autos.
The green Mountain barrels and the CZ shoots as good as the Chipmunk, only difference is the 1022 has a harder trigger pull might want to work it, I just got used to mine and shoot it like it is.
The ammo is the secret, all my 22 rifles likes the federal high Power that walmart sells in bulk, one hole groups at 25 consistent, 5 shots looks like one shot.
And if you buy a new gun prep it before you shoot it and clean that barrel till it is clean as can be, shoot it 3 times allowing it o cool each shot, and re clean it till you get the group you are wanting. That way it will shoot consistent. 😉
The Savage Mark II has a nice tactical Look, I like! 400 yards shooting with a 22lr, Good luck!
The big difference between the CZ452 and the CZ455/Savage Mark II’s is the bolt design, The CZ452’s use a 2 lug bolt, (I like) just like centerfire rifles, The CZ455/Savage Mark II TR use a single lug bolt, being only the bolt handle, just like air rifles.
The CZ455 is multi-caliber barrel interchangeable like the Airforce airguns, but is this a make or break, the deal, feature? Most only use one caliber with their Airforce Rifles, and once turned I forgot about the Idea of changing barrels/calibers!

A few choices, CZ 455 with a barrel or two… Switch barrel and .22lr-22mag-.17hmr2-.17HMR
Sako Quad in a Manners stock… switch barrel, same calibers as above
TacSol AR-22 dedicated upper…
Nordic Components NC-22 dedicated upper… (I just built a lower for one of these and am using: Spikes/Aero lower, Geissele Super 3 gun trigger, a Blackdog 50rd drum and a few other blackdog mags, MOE grip, ACS stock, Armalite A2 clamp on front sight with NM post, and a RRA NM carry handle rear sight… Maintains rifle length sight distance.)
(You can use a Cavalry Arms lower receiver/stock while still available to save weight and costs, at the time I couldn’t find anyone who stocked them…)
Then again I have a CZ 452 “Special” that is a fantastic rifle, whether it wears a scope or irons. If I want more accuracy and weight I then bring out the old BRNO Model 4…
The M&P 15-22 Polymer rifle : Built with a polymer upper and lower, and polymer four-sided Picatinny rail and polymer scope rail. Never owned a Poly rifle, owned a Glock 9mm. I like poly Stocks. Something to think about.

Young! :p turn 21 on the 26th. I joined the guard right out of high school. M&P15-22 will most likely be my purchase. I hear the trigger pull is high only complaint. Would get that and dress her up with magpul furniture and scope. Little “dmr” if you will.

The American has 3/8 inch dovetails, the Ultra Lux and Varmint 11mm dovetails.

I have had a but load of 1022’s, some with can on them and I have had CZ in 22 and 17, they are all good guns.
I would try the S&W MP 15-22, your young and you will want to get a M4 some day, so this might give you a little preview.

I took my 1022 rugger with the green mountain varmint Barrel fluted today and fired 3 shots, first time that gun has been fired in I don’t know when. The first shot was off center but it is normal since it probably has lint in the barellI didn’t even clean it after a long time in storage. However the other 2 shots hit each other and that was 45 yards in a 20 MPH wind holding dead center with Walmart federal bulk 36 grain hollow points.
The CZ wont come close to that , and even the manufacturer sent me a target they shot with it an it wasn’t one shot as close as the 2 I shot.
I remember when I bought the 1022 and it had the factory barrel and it wasn’t an impressive gun IMHO. But after I put the barrel on it “took all day” had to take a reamer and meticulously sand the Polystok for the barrel to slide right in smoothly. Then it became IMHO the best shooting 1022 you’ll find.
Shot one inch high on 45 yards and I have it hitting hole for hole on 25 yards dead center.
IMHO if you want a real dependable gun in 22 caliber even a high powered like the 22-250 you’ll need a good barrel varmint.
I have 2 of the 1022’s one has the varmint in a none fluted and it has a laminated stock. The one I shot today has a synthetic stock and still driving tacks with the same ammo I zero’d it with over 10 years ago. 😉
