Good Long Range Scope
So, Ive been stretching my new Air Ranger with 10X Hawke Sidewinder out to 150 yards and have run out of mil dots.
I saw on one of Ted’s Holdover videos that he puts the power of his 20x Sidewinder on 10X and that doubles the width between the mil dots, thus doubles the range of the aim points.
Obviously that scope would be one option.
I’ve a Bushnell Elite 3200 6-24x that has 4 mil dots, 5 if I want to use where the cross hair goes wide. Mil dots are calibrated at 12x so I can double that by dropping to 6x.
No half mil dot points and the solid mil dots aren’t near as precise as on my Hawke.
I’m wondering what other scope s have aim point reticles with the required precision to shoot long.
Feel free to include price or links(grin)

OMG
Not just a little but way.
Personally I like good glass as much as anyone but something that can take knocks while maintaining POI and train track type erector movement take precedent.
Options. Ziess, Schmit & Bender, and the better Lupy sniper Mark scopes, Night Force, and just a very few others. With the Lupy and Night Force being a big step down in quality in the optics compaired to the first two listed. 😉
Prices, Grab your Ass! 😯 They ain’t cheap! 😉

I have the BSA contender and it is alot different than other BSA scopes, with great featuers like the turrets have caps that can ber reset to zero, red, green and blue illumination with three different brightness.
Oh and I have looked through a Ziess, the Contenerd is way clearer.
Charlie,
I have a 10x fixed SWFA that will be going on my .257. In comparison to my mark 4 (compared at 200 yards with mid morning sun at 3:00), if I gave the mark 4 a 10 in clarity, I would rate the SS a 9.5.
Yeah, Mil/Moa makes no sense at all. 😕 Wish I could get my hands on a good first focal plane. It would make my scope quest complete. 😉
I haven’t been able to make myself slum a Leapers or BSA. Haven’t made that high end leap to Night Force, and beyond yet either.
I’ve quite a few Leupolds 6×42’s,3.5×10’s and a 4.5-14. 3-9 EFR too now that i think about it.
Some others i’ve moved on. Some of them Mark 4’s. Like them but have not been awe inspired by their erector travel.
Had a couple broken reticles on the 6×42’s.
I’ve a 10X sidewinder on a Royale 400 and now my Air Ranger that is a pretty good reticle for long range work and adjustments spot on.
That scope has been around now and proved itself.
Example of one and all that.
Did make my longest air rifle shot ever the other day at 142 yards on a pigeon.
Run out of aim points though and the MOA adjustments don’t correlate to the mil aim points.
Definately thinking mil/mil or MOA/MOA is the way to go.
RC, a buddy bought a Bug Buster for one of his springers, and of course he brought it up here for me to Mount and sight it in. I see them toted here and on the Yellow often. Shit! Pure Shit. I could not even make out a target with a 6″ orange dot on it on 12″x12″ white paper under cloudy skies.
How in hell can people say they are good for the money. I don’t’ care HOW cheap they are, or how cheaply made. Good for the money is nothing more than a buzz work for CRAP! The question is, are they good for the intended purpose. Seeing the target in less than idea conditions. If not, they are useless.
Go buy a roll of toilet paper, wipe your ass, and use the tube with a couple of hairs taped across the front, an I guarantee you that you will have a sharper, clearer sight picture than a leapers. And they are very slightly superior to a BSA. 😯
Rant sorta over, but not completely.
If you go th the Yellow, I can just about bet, some dumb ass is once again, asking about those hawk crap scopes. It is every single day. And every day some one sings their praises that they warranty their crap. How do they know? They just had to send one in of course! Many times, over and over again. Get a damed clue folks. A good glass doesn’t have to spend the bulk of it’s time in the damed mail getting replaced due to crap manufacture. Notice I didn’t say crap quality. Because Quality isn’t there. Period.
No reason for it to be I guess. No one seems to know what the word means anymore. 😥
( I had a guy show up here at my range with a .50 Barrett. What scope was on it? A frigging Center Point. He was bragging as to its’ ability to absorb recoil. When I told him that it was an Air Gun scope, and rated for Springer (Had to explain what that was), He just about shit his paints.
He told me that Zeiss was far too weak, Soooo, I brought him into that house and called Zeiss on the speaker phone. Talked to The VP of Zeiss America and ask point blank. Will our Zeiss scopes stand up to .5o cal. His answer, Zeiss has the highest recoil “G” force rating in the entire industry. (Can’t remember if that was 1500 or 15,000 g’s.) At any rate, that sure shut the arrogant prick with the center point up!
The fucker missed the entire berm. It is only 10 feet high, by 25″ wide.
He said it was off. I tried it. Shot three rounds of .50 hard ball. All three touching. Yep, It was off, by at least 6 inches. So I dialed it in for him. But I sent him to The Fort Hood Range. No way in hell is that non shooting solider shooting on my range again! 👿

Mike,
What a terrible thing to say, Chinese glass is not good? What about all the Sidewinders? They are just as good as Leupolds, don’t you ever read the forums? 😎
Perhaps a VX1 or a class under that. But I doubt it. Then there are the guys singing the praises of the Leapers, pardon me while I puke.
I like the ability to send a scope back to the factory to get target turrents or a different reticle, and when I turn a scope up, I want it to be clear.
I have never looked thru the 10 power swfa snipers, but I have come close to buying them .
RC
😕 I’v looked thru a LOT of BSA Scopes and never once have I seen a BSA-Any BSA with clear optics. Either you have the great exception to the rule on chinese scopes, or you have never looked thru truly fine optics!
Options. Ziess, Schmit & Bender, and the better Lupy sniper Mark scopes, Night Force, and just a very few others. With the Lupy and Night Force being a big step down in quality in the optics compaired to the first two listed. 😉

Try the BSA Contender, it is one of the best scopes I have ever used. And it has 18 mil-dots on the vertical axis, and some very very clear lenses.
I’d go with the SWFA scope for a long range air gun application. They have over 100MOA to play with.
That is a nice scope/reticle design. It is going to go on the short list.

Okay, I was rough, let me rephrase that.
I find many of the fucking idiots on BB guns forums entertaining in their overwhelming ignorance.
I mean really, that BSA is clearer than a Zeiss?
My but your fun and entertaining.
I hear this shit regarding Leapers stuff also, it is like these guys would be better served with white canes and red tips.
Oh well.
Joe, I have heard nothing but good regarding the SWFA Sniper, BTW I found you a boxed Ideal dipper.
Recently I have been using a Bisely eye piece on my Leupold VX111 4×14 LR 30 MM Hollands, while not quite as clear as a BSA it is a pretty decent piece of glass for a American scope.
But the sun shines right in “me one good eye” due to the angle I have my range set up. That Bisely eye piece is wonderful, but having only one eye, I see nothing but what I see thru the scope, as a result I have been shooting some of the best groups ever with the Haley.
