Goofin off with SUREFIRE slugs
Went on a quick Jack hunt and in between breaks, i decided to goof off some. I had a can of black spray paint that would leak all over my hand when i used it. So it had to go. No better way than to set it up out far and blast it. 100 yrds far. The metal box that rested the can quickly became a target also after i blew up the can. Even my 10mm Glock could not completely penetrate the steel box at 40 yrds.
1st up. Me blasting the spray can at 100 yrds (lasered). 1 shot 1 kill:
After i hit the can, i kinda wanted to see what the condor and the Surefire slugs would somewhat do at 100 yrds. I used the 1st shot to get an idea of where the POI would be. In the picture, you see 1 smashed pellet at the top of the box just to the lower right of the cover screw. I put the 3rd lower mildot right on that screw. For the following 3 shots, i used the 2nd lower mildot to aim at the 1st shot. Which put the 3rd lower mildot right at POI in the picture. Notice the totally SMASHED SLUGS at that distance. Also, you can clearly see that the slugs do not tumble. They hit perfectly head on. Here are the pics:

Yeah, i was totally shocked when i walked up to that box and saw those slugs totally flat and flowered outwardly the way they were at that distance. That slug at the top of the box was GLUED to it from the impact. I could not remove it with my hands, i had to use a flat tip screw driver. And yeah, not even the 10mm shooting 155 gr slugs at 1250 fps could totally penetrate it at 40 yrds away. It did put a seriously nasty buldge at the back of the box though…he he he
Nice post Ced. It looks like those 7 rings are about a perfect match for your gun. I would think for hog hunting inside of 50 yards the 9 ring would be even better since you have the power to use them.
That is one tough electrical box standing up to your Glock and DS. I do think I see some tearing in the steel at the center of the top impact though. You’ll just have to hit that spot again if you want penetration at 100 yards! 🙄
Those splats show that you have lots of energy left at 100 yards. I’ll bet there’s more energy left in the 7 ring (fired from your gun) than there is in most .22LR’s. I really like how these slugs are performing. They do require a strong gun though.

Rob: Yeah, being out in the desert there really IS just more room than any kinda airgun could shoot at. Hell, in some parts there is probably too much room for even a 50 cal BMG.
maw: 1 of these days i will get brave enough and set up my Chrony at 50 and 75 and 100 yrds to see what the downrange velocity is so i can get some FPE and BC numbers off those slugs. I am very confident that i can make the shots with hitting my chrony…HE HE HE. But at the muzzle the slugs are making exactly 118.7 FPE!! That a 66 gr slug travelling 900 FPS.

ASV: I just about guarantee ya it could take an even bigger hog further out…WITH A WELL PLACED HEAD SHOT of course. The hog hunt that i went on in April had some guys taking nice hogs with .22 cal pcp’s and Kevin i took a 118 lb hog with his Condor .25 only making 80 FPE. At 40-50 yrds i’d be willing to bet that these slugs would make a clean pass through and do tons of brain damage. I also shot the box with my DS454 and some 200 gr slugs and the DEPTH of the dents between the 66 gr slugs and the 200 gr slugs seemed to be about identical even though the DS more than doubles the FPE of my condor. Strange but true.
Very Kewl, I bet those things would easily drop a 120-150lb hog at 40 yds with a well placed head shot. Probably damn near tear thier head off..lol

I just got 100 of the 7 rings. run half through my moly coating setup. shot a couple indoors and the coated ones definitely load easier. now I just have to wait for a nice afternoon to get a chrony and accuracy comparison between the coated/uncoated ones.
the slugs definately flatten out way big if they hit something hard enough, there was alot of energy left at 100yrds to do this, amazing! plus the new slugs wiegh slightly more now then in the beginning.

I envy yall who have the long distances to hunt in. The majority of my shots are 35yards and under. Lots of brush, etc.
