grips

i see in a lot of your pics that you guy have custom grips well i was wanting one and do not want wood or just a slide on rubber grip. some of you have what looks like a 1911 .45 grip, what is involved in making one or buying the parts, or where can i just buy one out right? or any other sugestions, i just hat the crappy plastic one. ps i do not have a machine shop.
