THE MOST SWEEPING GUN BAN EVER INTRODUCED IN CONGRESS;McCarthy Bill Bans Millions More Guns Than The Clinton Gun Ban
On Feb. 14, 2007, Representative Carolyn McCarthy (D-N.Y.) introduced H.R. 1022, a bill with the stated purpose, “to reauthorize the assault weapons ban, and for other purposes.”
McCarthy’s verbiage warrants explanation. Presumably, what she means by “assault weapons ban” is the Clinton Gun Ban of 1994. Congress allowed the ban to expire in 2004 for multiple reasons, including the fact that federal, state and local law enforcement agency studies showed that guns affected by the ban had been used in only a small percentage of crime, before and after the ban was imposed.
With the nation’s murder rate 43% lower than in 1991, and the re-legalized guns still used in only a small percentage of crime, reauthorizing the Clinton Gun Ban would be objectionable enough. But McCarthy’s “other purposes” would make matters even worse. H.R. 1022 would ban every gun banned by the Clinton ban, plus millions more guns, including:
. Every gun made to comply with the Clinton ban. (The Clinton ban dictated the kinds of grips, stocks and attachments new guns could have. Manufacturers modified new guns to the Clinton requirements. H.R. 1022 would ban the modified guns too.)
. Guns exempted by the Clinton ban. (Ruger Mini-14s and -30s and Ranch Rifles; .30 cal. carbines; and fixed-magazine, semi-automatic, center-fire rifles that hold more than 10 rounds.)
. All semi-automatic shotguns. (E.g., Remington, Winchester, Beretta and Benelli, used for hunting, sport shooting, and self-defense. H.R. 1022 would ban them because they have “any characteristic that can function as a grip,” and would also ban their main component, called the “receiver.”)
. All detachable-magazine semi-automatic rifles-including, for example, the ubiquitous Ruger 10/22 .22 rimfire-because they have “any characteristic that can function as a grip.”
. Target shooting rifles. (E.g., the three centerfire rifles most popular for marksmanship competitions: the Colt AR-15, the Springfield M1A and the M1 “Garand.”)
. Any semi-automatic shotgun or rifle an Attorney General one day claims isn’t “sporting,” even though the constitutions of the U.S. and 44 states, and the laws of all 50 states, recognize the right to use guns for defense.
. 65 named guns (the Clinton law banned 19 by name); semi-auto fixed-magazine pistols of over 10 rounds capacity; and frames, receivers and parts used to repair or refurbish guns.
H.R. 1022 would also ban the importation of magazines exempted by the Clinton ban, ban the sale of a legally-owned “assault weapon” with a magazine of over 10 rounds capacity, and begin backdoor registration of guns, by requiring private sales of banned guns, frames, receivers and parts to be conducted through licensed dealers. Finally, whereas the Clinton Gun Ban was imposed for a 10-year trial period, H.R. 1022 would be a permanent ban.

Why? If it as doomsday as you put it there is nothing they can do… Take California as an example of their failure to stop anything… I remember a few cases where they abandoned their position when the gov did what ever they wanted even if it was against the law…

Yes, let’s do take California for an example. In the last many years the NRA has been wildly successful at stopping the BS in this, the most difficult statee to fight such liberal tripe. In fact, except for the .50 BMG ban it’s been a clean sweep. All thanks to the NRA Member’s Council network and our ability to mobilize folks at key moments in the right spots. We have our own, very excellent, full time lobbist in Sacramento calling the shots and many hundreds of dedicated volunteers under strict control.
The number of evil attempts at RKBA stopped by a vote or two due to the efforts of these NRA volunteers is impressive indeed.
You may also have noticed some NRA-ILA activity involving the DC gun ban case at the SC?
Anyway, I think you’re dead wrong about ‘the NRA is useless in California’. Why not check out http://www.nramemberscouncils.com/. educate yourself a bit about what’s really going on (and has been), and see if your opinion is accurate?

There is an interesting thing happening in liberal areas in the city I live.
Gangs of youth parade through well off super liberal neighborhoods, busting car windows and selecting many folks to muggings and house take over exercises.
Of course the police take forever to arrive and more so when there are no dead or dying bodies. Many of these people play the victim role and do it very well.
Most of these folks are hippies turned yuppy and regurgitated into neo-liberals (those that take others rights away in the name of ‘fairness’). 🙄
Why do these gangs rove in these areas? Easy, they know these people don’t like guns and are therefore they are helpless against attacks.
Easy pickins.
Contrast that with the western section of the city where liquor store robberies have dropped severely after several masked men met their demise at the end of a shotgun.
Why have the hold ups nearly stopped? Liquor store owners have begun arming themselves against such attacks…
Where would any half a brain criminal go to rip people off?
Automatic weapons are illegal in California right? Even seen the video of the recent restaurant takeovers in Cali? A Tech 9 here and there, an occasional Uzi, maybe even an AK47 with a pistol grip so they can get it under their coats…

Adam is exactly correct. We do not need ANY more laws…gun or otherwise. Everything is already covered. What we need is the enforcement of said laws. Many times the gun violations of a crime are plea bargined away and the bad guy gets a reduced sentence in the name of expediency.
Make no mistake about it, the goal of many liberals is to disarm everyone but themselves. Diane Finestein, she who authored the high capacity magazine ban here in California, has a CCW! Her life is important, but ours is not. What’s up with that.
Join the NRA? Absolutely! After Clinton got his Assault Weapon ban, there was a landslide election that gave the majority to the republicans in both the house and senate. Clinton was quoted, “the NRA really cut us a new one over that”. And we did. How much gun control will they get now? I don’t know because there are still democrats who remember what a mistake the original Assault Weapon ban was.
The FBI Uniform Crime Report was suppressed when the original 1989 Assault Weapon ban was passed here in Calfornia. Mr. Roberti and Mr. Roos didn’t want the people to know that less than 1% of the crimes were committed with so called assault weapons.
They just don’t want us to own guns. It has nothing to do with making anyone any safer. Anybody who has paid any attention to the issue knows that crime goes down when law abiding citizens are allowed to protect themselves with deadly force. The liberals can’t handle that.
Wouldn’t it just be easier to out law ” Breaking the Law?” That would solve all the problems wouldn’t it?
With registered items the numbers are low… With illegal items the numbers are high.
Banning those items doesn’t really stop the criminals…
And did you know if your a felon you can illegally conceal carry, when asked by a cop you have the right to not incriminate yourself…
How fucked up is that.
Also I think getting popped for concealed carry without a permit is only a misdemeanor felony so you can still legally purchase and own a gun…
I think tougher gun laws should be put in place over the further banning of firearms…

does anyone have any statistics of how often assault, large cap, full auto weapons are used in crimes, compared to say california legal weapons ?
England, Canada, Austrailia…are we next? I am an AMERICAN and this type of gun ban crap is highly offensive to me.
Understand that here in California we have aready been forced to submit to this socialist garbage. The rest of America take heed!
people think that england has it bad…germany has 5 fpe rule(7.5joules) actually most of europe has airgun laws in place or are working on it.

next they are going to force you to pay for a 1 year long school course that rns every weekend, to pass a strickt test….buy safe’s that can withstand a nuclear attack before its ok to store your hunting rifles at home….and to have ammo you have to live more than 500 yards from your neighbors and it has to be store seperatly in a bunker
then when thats done and said they will ask you to invite criminals indoors and show them where you hide your valuables, and to let them have a go with the wife…….you think im making fun….denmark has a shitload of home invasions cause they are not allowed to defend them self….the top police director said that when you get attacked the police recommended what i stated above….help the criminal all you can….something is wrong in the state of denmark

Do you understand that after they get that ban, they will tell us that we are still not safe and need to protect us even more by banning every other type of firearm? Then we will still not be safe and will need to have our air guns regulated/banned.
