I have done hot bluing years ago in the late 80’s, did it as a buisness for a couple of local gun shops, it takes quite a bit to do hot blueing complete tear down of gun polishing satin or high gloss hot bluing tank and rinse tank bluing salts burner for bluing tank, you have to get it up to temperature of 280o if I remember right, leave it in the tank for about an hour rinse well several times clean and oil all parts! the polishing is probably the hardest part you need cloth wheels to polish a gun everything gets polished, if you polish it to a high gloss that is what it will look like when done except it will be a high luster blue and if you put a satin polish on it that is what it will look like still dark blue but not a high luster shine a satin shine 😆 If you have accsess to a couple tanks and a way to heat one up bluing salts are not real expensive, but for just doine your own guns it would be costly, unless you had tanks and a burner! I made my burner out of a length of pipe when I built mine 😯
And yes warming up parts to cold blue will help quite a bit, rinse with cold water, rinse with hot water blue again do this about 4 or 5 times it will look quite good 😉
